Day two is in the books at the 2008 ECC Softball Championships, held at the sparkling Dowling College Brookhaven Campus.

Game 3: (3) New Haven 6, (2) Adelphi 2

Breanne Gleason led the Charger offense going 2-for-4 on the day with an RBI and 3 runs scored as the Chargers (25-17) topped the Panthers (37-18) in Thursday's opener.  Gleason went 7-plus innings allowing three runs on eight (1 earned) after relieving Meg Brown in the top of the 1st the bases loaded and no outs to get out of the jam.  Home runs by Brown and Jessica Medina provided crucial insurance runs as the Chargers moved to 2-0 in the tourney.  Dely Francisco and Katie Brophy each had two hits for Adelphi, with RBI provided by Jessica Vogt and Diedra White. Julia Schaper went 5-plus innings giving up six runs on six hits with seven strike outs.

Game 4: (1) C.W. Post 4, (5) Bridgeport 3

C.W. Post starter Samantha Yodowitz went the distance over seven strong innings and scored the deciding run as the Pioneers (42-14) edged the Purple Knights (23-23) to move to 2-0 in the winner's bracket. Bridgeport tailed early and rallied in the top of the sixth to knot the game at three. Yodowitz led off the bottom of the sixth with a double, moved to third on a sacrifice bunt by Katie Younes, and scored on a line drive to center field by Megan Correia, that a diving Larson could not hold onto, scoring Yodowitz as the eventual winning run. Bridgeport starter Tricia Lee went 2 for 4 at the plate and tossed six-plus innings allowing four runs on five hits and struck out five.

Game 5: (2) Adelphi 6, (4) NYIT 2

Dianna DiPiano and Jessica Vogt each homered to carry the Panthers (38-18) into the next round and eliminate the Bears (29-16). Julia Schaper pitched her second game of the day allowing two runs on six hits with eight strikeouts.  Lauren Sabia led the Lady Bears going 3-for-3 with an RBI.

Game 6: (5) Bridgeport 3, (6) Dowling 2

Nicole Steiner's two-run double in the bottom of the fifth plated the two go-ahead runs as Bridgeport (24-23) advanced to the final four and stayed alive with a 3-2 nail-biter, eliminating the sixth-seeded Golden Lions (27-30). Dowling jumped ahead with two runs in the second, before Bridgeport rallied. Jackie Hannan, Kristina DeMeo and Lisa Compitello each had two hits to lead the Dowling offense.  Tricia Lee earned the win for Bridgeport with 4.2 scoreless innings of relief.
