Baden Player of the Week

Dely Francisco, Adelphi (Sr., OF, Haverstraw, N.Y. / North Rockland) - Hit .465 (20-43) with 13 runs scored in an 8-2 week. She slugged .605, went 13 for 14 in stolen base attempts and added 13 putouts with one assist and no errors. She posted an in-the-park home run in her first at bat against Dominican.

Baden Pitcher of the Week

Julie Schaper, Adelphi (Sr., Warwick, N.Y. / Chapel Field) - Post a 4-0 record over four starts with a 1.88 ERA in 26 inning pitched, allowing eight runs (7 ER), with 21 strikeouts against 10 walks.  

Baden Rookie of the Week
Catherine Kowalski, Mercy (Fr., SS, Melville, N.Y. / Half Hollow Hills East HS) - Hit .462 with one home run and two RBI, two runs scores and slugged .692 with at least one hit in each outing. In the second game of the DH against Dowling she went 2-for-4 (R, RBI). She went 2-for-3 (HR) in game two of a DH against Molloy.

ECC Notebook

ECC: In the most recent NFCA Division II national poll (3/26), C.W. Post was ranked 16th, while NYIT was receiving votes.

CW Post: The Pioneers posted a 5-3 week, highlighted by sweeps of NE-10 rivals, Southern Connecticut State and Bryant University.  Senior pitcher Samantha Yodowitz led the Pioneers at the plate and on the mound, batting .435 on the week with two doubles, a home run, and five RBI, while going 3-1 in the circle with a 1.91 ERA.  C.W. Post, ranked 16th in the latest NFCA national poll, will host conference rival Concordia on Tuesday, April 1, and travel to Dowling for another ECC match-up on April 3. 

Adelphi: Adelphi completed a tough week which saw five straight consecutive competitions, four at home on Janet L. Ficke Field. The Panthers finished the week with an 10-2 overall record. Senior Dely Franciso led the way with a.465 average, going 20-43 with 13 runs scored and two RBI. Junior Samantha Johnston hit .370 with 14 RBI and eight runs scored. Junior Diana DiPiano also had 14 RBI with three HR. On the mound, senior Julie Schaper posted a 4-0 record in 26.0 innings. She gave up eight runs, seven earned with 10 walks and 21 strikeouts.  Senior Samantha Tilton was 3-0 with a 0.00 ERA with two saves in 12.1 innings. In conference play the Panthers swept New Haven and Molloy, but split with NYIT for a 5-1 league record on the week.

Molloy: The Lady Lions went 6-4 for the week.  They took 13-4 and 6-5 victories over Concordia on March 25.  On March 26, Molloy defeated Queens, 10-3 and 10-9 and on March 30, the Lady Lions won two games over Mercy (5-0; 9-1).  They lost to Le Moyne (10-6; 9-0) on March 24 and dropped to Adelphi (5-4; 10-2) on March 28.  Nicole Losito and Tiffany D'Alessandro each had 11 hits and 11 RBI, while Alexandra Sydor added 10 RBI on 12 hits.  Amanda Havdoglous picked up four wins on the mound with a 1.65 ERA. 

NYIT: Junior Nina Cesare went 1-1 with one save in three appearances, posting a 2.12 ERA for the Bears. Cesare picked up her first save of the season in the Bears win over Adelphi on Saturday, throwing three scoreless innings with three strikeouts. On Sunday she scattered three runs on 10 hits with four strikeouts in a win over New Haven. Senior Katelyn Thomas's two-run triple propelled the Bears to a 4-3 win over Adelphi on Saturday.

Mercy: The Mavericks (6-9, 2-2) went 2-2 last week with both wins coming against Dowling College (3-2, 10-3). Sophomore Stephanie Pereyo (Southington, CT) continued to pitch well with a complete game victory (3-2) against Dowling. She gave up seven hits, two runs (one earned) and struck out five batters. For the week, she was 1-1 with two complete games and a 3.46 ERA. Pereyo has completed all seven games she has started this season. Freshman Catherine Kowalski (Melville, NY) hit .462 for the week with one home run and two RBI. She also scored twice and led the team with a .692 slugging percentage. In the second game of the doubleheader she went 2-for-4 with one RBI and a run scored. Kowalski went 2-for-3 with a home run in the second game against Molloy. Freshman Stephanie Owsiany (Edison, NJ) hit .417 with two RBI and two runs scored. Owsiany went 2-for-4 in the second game of a doubleheader against Dowling with two runs driven in and one run scored. She also went 2-for-3 in game one against Molloy. Freshman Chelsea Methot (Bristol, CT) hit .417 for the week and knocked in three runs and scored three. Methot went 3-for-3 with an RBI in game one against Dowling and in game two went 2-for-3 with two RBI and three runs scored. For the year, Methot leads the team with a .457 average, 11 RBI, 15 runs scored, and is tied for the team lead in doubles (3), triples (1) and home runs (2). Senior Jessica Madick (Tarzana, CA) is second on the team in batting with a .386 average and has 17 hits and seven runs scored. Owsiany is batting .318 with seven runs driven in and seven runs scored. The Mavericks will be back in action on Tuesday in a doubleheader at home against Queens.

Bridgeport: It was a busy week for the UB softball team, as the Purple Knights went 4-4 splitting four doubleheaders.  UB heads into this week's play with an 8-13 overall mark and a 2-2 ECC record. On the season, Tricia Lee leads the team in batting average at .365.  Hannah Larson is second in batting average at .355, and Brittany Steiner, who blasted a game-winning home run versus Bloomfield on Sunday, is third in batting average at .323.  All three of those ladies have also hit two home runs each on the season, and Lee and Steiner lead Bridgeport in runs batted in with 12 apiece. Lee and Steiner also lead the team in wins, as they each have three victories from the pitching circle. Freshman Dana Amatucci picked up her first college win in UB's 3-2 win over Bloomfield on Sunday.

Queens: The Lady Knights split a pair of league games at NYIT on Tuesday with Tech winning the first, 1-0 and QC rebounding to take the second, 5-1. Christy Sanders was the hard luck loser in the opener, surrendering an unearned run while striking out six in six innings of work ... Jillian Rini had two hits and two RBI while Mancusi had three more hits to power the Lady Knights to a 5-1 win in the nightcap. Mancusi, who was 10 for 20 for the week, started a three run second inning rally with a double and Rini finished it with a two run, two out single to give QC the early advantage ... The Lady Knights pounded out 21 hits in a doubleheader loss at Molloy ... Bryttne Nelson was the winner and loser in a split with Assumption on Saturday. She was saddled with a 4-1 loss in the opener despite surrendering no earned runs and 6 hits in 7 innings of work. Bryttne and her teammates rebounded in the nightcap for a 4-3, walk-off win. Nelson finished the seventh and was the recipient of a seventh inning run to pick up the victory. She also went 3 for 7 at the plate in the doubleheader.

New Haven: The Chargers split a pair of East Coast Conference doubleheaders on the weekend after being swept in their league opener with Adelphi on Tuesday.  UNH now sits at 7-10 overall and 3-3 in ECC play.  Breanne Gleason led the Chargers last week, hitting .417 with a pair of home runs and six RBI's in eight games.  She also posted a 1.75 ERA and 31 strikeouts in 32 innings, including four complete games in six appearances overall.  Meg Brown earned a pair of wins in the circle on the weekend, downing Bridgeport and NYIT, and she struck out 26 in 18 1/3 innings.  Rookie Chelsea Harold batted .381 in eight games, while Jordanna Borska had two home runs, including a game-tying shot in the opener against NYIT on Sunday.  Courtney Garland came up big in the second game vs. the Bears, with a three-run home run and a run-scoring single later in the game.  UNH hosts American International on Tuesday and then plays at STAC and at Caldwell on Saturday and Sunday next week.

St. Thomas Aquinas: The STAC women's softball team had a 2 & 4 week splitting 2 games with Bridgeport on Tuesday, dropping a doubleheader to Georgian Court on Wednesday and splitting 2 games with Wilmington on Sunday. The Spartan overall record is 7 & 13 and 1 & 3 in the ECC.

Concordia: The Clippers lost 2 ECC games to Molloy on Tuesday 13-4 and 6-5. Freshman Jillian Maselli pitched a complete game for the Clippers, allowing 8 hits and 3 earned runs in the second game. Maselli struck out a season high 6 batters. The Clippers will travel to C.W. Post on Tuesday before hosting Bloomfield on Thursday and Mercy on Saturday.
