Baden Player of the Week

Nicole Downs, New Haven (So., SS, Seymour, Conn. / Seymour) - In a 2-2 week, hit .615 (8-13) with a double, three home runs, seven RBI and five runs scored.  She slugged 1.385 and added a pair of sacrifice flies.

Baden Pitcher of the Week

Samantha Yodowitz, C.W. Post (Sr., Suffern, N.Y. / Suffern) - Posted a 4-1 record with a 0.27 ERA in five appearances last week. Struck out 27 and walked five in 33 innings, allowing one earned run. Held opponents to a .151 average. Also hit .310 with three triples and eight RBI. Tossed a one-hit (10 K) shutout (6-0) over Bentley and a two-hitter (5 K) shutout (10-0) over Central Missouri.

Baden Rookies of the Week
Christina Berardi, CW Post (Fr., P, Raynham, Mass. / Bridgewater-Raynham) - Went 3-1 in four appearances with a 1.38 ERA(4 ER, 15 K) last week. Limited opposition to a .223 average. Tossed a one-hit shutout (3 K) over Ferris State. Added a four-hit (5 K, 0 BB) shutout over South Dakota. 

Chelsea Methot, Mercy (Fr., OF, Bristol, Conn. / Bristol Central HS) - Hit .550 (11 H) with two home runs, five RBI and seven runs scored in a 2-4 week. Went 2 for 3 (HR, 2 RBI, R) against Georgian Court. Added a combined five hits (HR, 2 RBI, 3 R) in a DH against Slippery Rock.

ECC Notebook

NYIT: Junior Lia Lara went 2-4 with a run scored and three RBI to lead NYIT to a 5-2 win over Felician in game one of a double header on Wednesday. The Bears completed the sweep with a 2-0 win and game two and extended their season long winning streak to nine games.

Molloy: The Lady Lions opened the 2008 season with a 4-2 record.  They took a 9-5 victory and a 7-0 victory over Nyack College on March 14.  On March 15, the Lady Lions fell 8-0 and 2-1 to St. Leo University but then recorded a 3-1 victory and a 10-7 victory over St. Thomas University. 
CW Post: The 17th-ranked Pioneers went 7-2 on the week, completing their stint at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Fla.  Senior pitcher Samantha Yodowitz went 4-1 on the week, with a 0.27 ERA.  Freshman pitcher Christina Berardi posted a 3-1 record with a 1.38 ERA.  A sophomore trio was key to the Pioneer's weeklong success, with Melissa Medina batting .433 out of the leadoff spot, while 2007 ECC Rookie of the Year Christie Softy has 11 hits in 28 at bats with seven RBI, and outfielder Katie Fisher has eight hits with six RBI.  Yodowitz also chipped in offensively, with a .310 batting average including three triples.  The Pioneers take on St. Leo in a doubleheader on Monday at 5 p.m.  in Saint Leo, Fla.  They travel to Lakeland, Fla. for a Tuesday doubleheader against Florida Southern at 5 p.m.  The Pioneers are scheduled to open their ECC schedule with a doubleheader against St. Thomas Aquinas at noon on Mar. 22.

Concordia: The Clippers were idle this past week. Freshman Jaime Lorenzo leads the Clippers with a .571 batting average. Junior Julie Walsh has a team best 6 RBI and 10 hits. Walsh is batting .385 and has a double, triple and a home run so far this season. Freshman Alexa Rosella has 9 hits and 3 RBI. The Clippers will travel to Queens on Tuesday and Briarcliffe on Thursday.

New Haven: The Chargers opened their season 2-2 at the Rebel Spring Games in Kissimmee, Florida last week, and continue play at the multi-team event this week.  It was at this same event last year that the Chargers rose to take a spot in the national rankings after opening the season 9-1, including two wins over the 14th-ranked team in the nation.  Last week, UNH was led by the strong hitting of Nicole Downs, who batted .615 (8-for-13) with a double, three home runs, 7 RBI's and five runs scored.  She slugged 1.385 and added a pair of sac flies.  Jordanna Borska also got off to a hot start, collecting six hits in 13 at-bats (.462 average), while Meg Brown hit .357 and Denise Castelli hit .333.  Freshman Hannah Everson allowed just two runs in a complete game in her collegiate debut, striking out seven to pick up a victory over Philadelphia University on Sunday afternoon.

St. Thomas Aquinas: The Lady Spartans won 4 games while losing 6 games on their Florida swing. They open ECC play on Tuesday at C. W. Post. Angela Squillini batted .370, had 10 hits, 3 homeruns, 8 runs scored, 19 total bases with a .704 slugging% in 27 at bats in Florida.

Bridgeport: UB went 4-8 on its season-opening road trip to Ft. Myers, FL.  The Purple Knights are scheduled to open the northern part of their 2008 schedule on Wednesday at Post University.  Bridgeport's home opener is scheduled for Friday when they are slated to host Southern Conn. State.

Queens: Danielle DiGioia returned from the Lady Knights Florida Trip with an eight game hitting streak. DiGioia was 9 for 20 with 3 RBI and 8 runs scored ... Katie Karpinski has 3 for 6 in two games last week while sara Koumou went 3 for 7 ... Jessica Hicks surrendered three earned runs over 12 innings of work but was saddled with the 6-4 loss against Bentley last Monday in Clermont, Florida. Katie Miracco was 2 for 2 earlier in the day in an 11-1 loss to AIC.

Mercy: The Mavericks (2-5) started off its season with seven games last week, winning the final two. Mercy picked up wins against Grinnell College and Mount St. Mary College, giving coach Jacqui Huffman her first wins at Mercy. The Mavericks played four of its games in Cocoa Beach, FL last week. Freshman Chelsea Methot (Bristol, CT) led the Mavericks in all major batting statistics with a .550 average, two home runs, five RBI, 11 hits and seven runs scored. Methot has hit safely in her first seven collegiate games with an .850 slugging percentage, a .609 on base percentage and stole a base. Freshman Amanda McPhee (Bristol, CT) batted .333 with two doubles, two RBI, two runs scored and three stolen bases. Senior Jessica Madick (Tarzana, CA) hit .300 with six hits and three runs scored last week. In three starts, Madick pitched one complete game with a 2.45 ERA and allowed only four extra base hits in 14.2 innings pitched. Sophomore Samantha LaBella (Mamaroneck, NY) pitched a complete game three-hit shutout against Grinnell and picked up another victory in relief against Mount St. Mary. LaBella had three appearances, one start, 9.1 innings, nine strikeouts and walked only two batters. Opponents batted only .242 against her. The Mavericks will play six more games in Cocoa Beach this week, including doubleheaders against Centenary College and Hamilton College.

Adelphi: Adelphi University returned from its southern trip with a 4-10 record.  The Panthers faced three Top 25 ranked teams including #2 Georgia College & State. Adelphi secured wins in a split with Augusta State, a sweep of USC-Aiken and solo game versus Limestone in the Eastern Carolina Classic. The Panthers return to action this Saturday as they take on Southern Connecticut State.
