Baden Player of the Week
Brilynn Fields, NYIT (Jr., CF, Aurora, Colo. / Otero CC) - Fields hit .571 with 16 hits, 10 RBI, two doubles, two triples and five runs scored in a 7-1 week. Fields, who also had an .821 slugging percentage and a .550 on base percentage, had at least two hits in six of the games, including a 3-3 performance with three RBI, a triple and a double in the win in game one over Chestnut Hill.
Baden Pitcher of the Week
Nina Cesare, NYIT (Jr., P, Whitestone, N.Y.) - Posted a 4-1 mark with a 1.84 ERA in five appearances last week. Cesare struck out 40 batters while allowing just six earned runs and a .194 opponent batting average in 29.1 innings. Cesare struck out a season high 12 batters in a win over Bloomfield and pitched a perfect five innings with 10 strikeouts in an 8-0 win over Chestnut Hill.
ECC Notebook
Concordia: The Concordia College softball team traveled to Claremont, Florida over Spring Break and played at the National Training Center (NTC). The Clippers went 4-4 during the break. Concordia defeated Ohio Valley University twice and split 2 games with Lebanon Valley. The Clippers also lost to NOVA Southeastern University and West Virginia Wesleyan before splitting a pair of games against ECC for Queens College on the final day. Junior Julie Walsh has recorded 10 hits, scored 5 runs and has 6 RBI. Walsh is batting .385 on the season. Freshman Jaime Lorenzo leads the Clippers with 6 runs and a .571 batting average in just 5 games. Junior Alex Mazza also has 6 runs on 5 hits, 2 of which were doubles. Junior Kelly Moran has a 2.81 ERA and is 1-1 on the season. Freshman Jillian Maselli is 2-1 on the year and has 4 strikeouts in 14 innings pitched. The Clippers will host the Skyhawks of Stonehill College on Sunday.
Dowling: The Golden Lions rebounded from a 1-5 start at the Rebel Games in Kissimmee, Fl to finish 4-8. They closed out their trip with wins over Gannon and Wayne State. In the rematch against Gannon where the Golden Lions were defeated (1-6) Taras Wallace broke the current Dowling records in both Doubles (47) and RBIs (109) to lead the team to a 10-1 victory. Keri Boystak contributed going 3-3 and smashed her second homerun of the season. Stephanie Plochochi recorded her 3rd win from the mound this season. Freshman, Katie Cameron recorded her first collegiate win in the 5-0 win over Wayne State.
Mercy: The Mavericks are scheduled to open the 2008 campaign at Southern Connecticut State on Monday and Georgian Court on Wednesday before heading to Cocoa Beach, FL, for a 10-game stretch. Mercy returns five letter winners from last season and will feature a freshman class totaling nine new faces.
C.W. Post: The Pioneers dropped their first two games of the season to Lock Haven, losing 1-0 and 7-1. Samantha Yodowitz took the loss in game one, allowing just one run on six hits in 6.1 innings of work. Offensively, the Pioneers were led by Melissa Medina, who notched three hits on the day. Megan Corriea and Yodowitz each tallied two hits. The Pioneers, currently ranked 12th nationally, will play Central Missouri University and East Stroudsburg University on Monday, as part of their weeklong stay in Florida.
