Game One

Dowling kicked off the day with a 2-1 victory over the #1 seeded Adelphi Panthers. The Golden Lions got off to an early start in bottom of the 1st when ECC Player of the Year, Taras Wallace (Barnegat, NJ) smacked a double to left field with 2 outs on the scoreboard to stay alive. Freshman, right fielder, Kristina DeMeo (Bay Shore, NY) reached first on a long throwing error for Wallace to round third base and slide home at the plate for a 1-0 lead over the Panthers.

Adelphi evened the score in the fourth as junior Julie Schaper's single to left field drove in Samantha Johnston who singled then advanced to third on a throwing error. Adelphi continued to pressure the Golden Lion infield, loading the bases with only one out in the top of the 5th but pitcher, Jackie Rogers (Alta Loma, CA) made a crucial double play from the mound to prevent any Panthers from crossing the plate to end the inning.

In the top of the 6th, tied at one all, the Panthers continued to load the bases looking to break the tie but the Golden Lions defense proved to hold solid with another vital double play by shortstop Lindsay Heinz (Mastic , NY) to end a potential Adelphi scoring inning. Game Two:

In a rematch of Friday's 9-0 loss, to the Pioneers of C.W. Post, the Golden Lions came out with a vengeance this afternoon pushing a game two for the Championship title.

It was a battle on the mound to see which team would strike first after 7 1/2 scoreless innings. In the top of the 6th, the Pioneers looked to round the bases first when leadoff hitter, Kelsey Cooley drilled a double to deep right field and advanced to third on a ground out by Melissa Hippo. Second baseman, Pinto was hit by a pitch to take first base and Heinz singled to left field to put runners into scoring position. With no outs on the scoreboard, Boystak was hit on the helmet at the plate to load the bases for left fielder, Wallace. On the second pitch, Wallace, popped the ball up the middle to drive home Pinto for the winning run.
