Player of the Week

Fabio Minami, Queens (Fr., #2 singles, #2 doubles, Sao Bernardo de Campo, Brazil) - Was 3-0 in both singles and doubles as the Knights won two of three matches, all with the same score (5-4). Minami won against Adelphi, 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (4), against Bryant, 6-1, 6-3 and versus NYU, 6-4, 6-4. He also combined with David Burstein to win all of their doubles matches, 8-6 (AU), 8-3 (BU), 9-7 (NYU).

Rookie of the Week

David Burstein, Queens (Fr.,  #3 singles, #2 doubles, East Rockaway, N.Y. / Lynbrook) - Was 3-0 in both singles and doubles this week. He won 6-2, 6-0 vs. Adelphi, 6-2, 3-6, 6-2 vs. Bryant and 2-6, 6-0, 6-1 against NYU.

ECC Notebook

ECC: In the most recent ITA Division II poll (4/2), Concordia was ranked No. 12 and Mercy was ranked No. 45 ... In the most recent East regional poll (3/31), Concordia was No. 1, Mercy was No. 4, Adelphi was No. 6, and Queens was No. 8 and Dowling was No. 9.

Concordia: The 12th ranked Clippers went 2-0 this past week to raise their record to 9-2 overall and 3-0 in the East Coast Conference. The Clippers defeated the Mavericks of Mercy College 9-0 on Wednesday in an ECC showdown. The Clippers traveled to Massachusetts on Sunday and defeated Amherst College 8-1. The Clippers will have a busy week, starting with a non-conference match-up at Division I St. John's University on Tuesday followed by ECC foe Dowling on Wednesday. This weekend, the Clippers will participate in the Bloomburg Duals at Bloomsburg University. On Friday, Concordia will take on University of the Sciences in Philadelphia. The following day, the Clippers will play Kutztown and Bloomsburg.

Mercy: The Mavericks (3-4, 3-1 ECC), No. 45 in the latest national rankings, split a pair of ECC matches last week, falling at No. 12 Concordia 9-0, and bouncing back with a 7-2 victory at Adelphi on Saturday.   The Mavericks took two of three doubles matches and five of the six singles matches versus the Panthers.   Mercy is currently ranked No. 4 in the east region. Zeki Tukel (Istanbul, Turkey) is ranked No. 10 in the region.  Doubles partners Yusufcan Koksal (Ankara, Turkey) and Mehdi Rhazali (Rabat, Morocco) are ranked No. 7 in the region and the duo of Timon Prosper (Mardigras, St. George's) and Carl Johnson (St. John, Antigua) come in at No. 9. The Mavericks are back in action on Saturday, April 12 at Queens College in another ECC match.

Queens: The Knights played three consecutive matches that were decided by scores of 5-4 this week, winning two of them. Knights freshmen Fabio Minami and David Burstein led Queens College to their first conference victory of the season, a 5-4 win over Adelphi University in Flushing on Wednesday afternoon. The two teams split the six singles matches but QC held a two to one advantage at doubles to post the victory. Minami and Burstein combined to take their #2 doubles match, 8-6 while Robby Scheuing and Ariel Nassim made the difference with an 8-5 win at third doubles. Minami posted a hard fought 6-4, 4-6, 7-6 (4) victory at second singles, Burstein won 6-2 and 6-0 at third singles and Nassim added a 6-4, 6-3 win at sixth singles for QC. On Saturday, Bryant University edged the Knights, 5-4, in Rhode Island. Queens College began the match ranked sixth in the region while Bryant came in at number three. After Bryant took two of three doubles matches, QC responded to tie the score at 4 apiece with wins at 2nd, 3rd and 6th singles. Fabio Minami continued to pile up the wins with a 6-1, 6-3 victory at #2 singles. Robby Scheuing nearly pulled it out for the Knights at 5th singles, but lost a marathon, 7-5, 6-7 (5-7), 0-1 (6-10). The doubles matches made the difference on Sunday in the Knights 5-4 win over NYU on Sunday at the National Tennis Center. QC won at second and third doubles while splitting six singles matches en route to their win. Fabio Minami and David Burstein paired to win at second doubles, 9-7, while Robby Scheuing and Ariel Nassim posted a 8-1 victory at third doubles for QC to start the day. Minami, Burstein and Scheuing also added wins at #2, #3 and #5 singles for the Knights.
