Player of the Week
Keith Henderson, NYIT (Jr., Port Jeff Station, N.Y., Attack) Scored a season-high seven goals, including the game winner with 3:13 remaining, to propel #3 NYIT to an 11-10 victory over #10 St. Michael's.
Goalkeeper of the Week
Rob Humann, Molloy (Sr., GK, Hicksville, N.Y.,
Hicksville HS) - Picked up his first two wins for the season in
goal. He posted a 3.96 GAA and made 9 saves over 91 minutes
of play. During the 15-2 victory over Briarcliffe, allowed
one goal over 36 minutes of play. In the 13-5 victory over
Assumption, allowed five goals in his 55 minutes of play.
Rookies of the Week
Ryan Bohlert, Molloy (Fr., A, East Patchogue, N.Y. / Bellport HS) - Helped the Lions to two victories this past week. In the 15-2 win over Briarcliffe, he scored his first two collegiate goals and handed out an assist. During the 13-5 victory over Assumption, notched two goals.
Daniel Gaudet, Adelphi (Fr., D, Plymouth, Mass. / Plymouth South) - Got the start and helped shut down St. Anselm in the panthers 13-5 win. He also picked up two ground balls and notched his first goal.
ECC Notebook
ECC: In the initial USILA Division II national poll (2/25), NYIT was No. 3, Mercyhurst was No. 4, Dowling and C.W. Post were tied at No. 6 and Molloy was No. 9.
Molloy: The Lions opened the 2008 season with two victories. On February 26, the Lions defeated Briarcliffe, 15-2 and then took a 13-5 win over Assumption on March 1. Keith Galante led the Lions with six goals and nine assists, while Mike Salisbury picked up seven goals and three assists.
NYIT: Junior Matt Messina added a goal and three assists and junior Kevin Hennessy handed out three assists in the Bears 11-10 victory over St. Michael's.
Mercyhurst: Mercyhurst moved to 2-1 on the year by defeating St. Andrews 9-4 and losing to Wingate 7-6 in overtime...The loss to Wingate snapped a 10-game road regular season winning streak for the Lakers...Jason LaShomb, the East Coast Conference Goalie of the Year in 2007, has a 4.60 goals against average and a 69.6 save percentage through three games...Mike Bartlett and Mike Thon lead the team with five goals and Bartlett and Aaron Manzer each have a team-high eight points on the year...The Lakers have outshot all three opponents this year...Mercyhurst plays at No. 1 Le Moyne Sunday at 1 p.m. The contest will be a rematch of last year's NCAA Division II National Championship game in which Le Moyne won on a goal with one second remaining in regulation.
Adelphi: The Panthers picked up their first win of the season, a 13-5 home win over St. Anselm. It also marks the first win for Adelphi head coach Gordon Purdie. Junior Edward Ege scored one goal and had a hand in four others (4A), helping Adelphi pick up a 13-5 win over St. Anselm in their home opener. Ege also picked up three ground balls. Sophomore Drew Smith won his first game in goal and helped Adelphi to their first win of the season last week. Smith made 16 saves in goal, allowing just five shots in a 13-5 win over St. Anselm, he also picked up two ground balls. Freshman Daniel Gaudet got the start and helped shut down St. Anselm in the panthers 13-5 win. Gaudet also picked up two ground balls and notched his first goal of the season.
