Player of the Week

Nick Cotter, Dowling (Sr., M, Whitby, Ont. / Henry Street HS) - Scored five goals including the game winner with 12 seconds left in the Golden Lions' season ending upset of No. 2 NYIT.

Goalkeeper of the Week
Nick Tracey, Dowling (Sr., Farmingville, N.Y. / Centereach HS) - Made 12 saves in a 15-14 win over No. 2 NYIT.

Rookie of the Week

Michael Giordano, C.W. Post (Fr., GK, Farmingdale, N.Y. / Farmingdale) - Made six saves, allowed four goals and picked up two groundballs in a win over Dominican.

ECC Notebook

ECC: In the most recent USILA Division II national top 10 poll (4/28), NYIT was No. 2, C.W. Post was No. 3, Adelphi was No. 6, Mercyhurst was No. 7, and Dowling was No. 8. Those rankings will likely change following Dowling's victory over NYIT in the regular season finale ... In the most recent NCAA (Central) Regional Poll (4/23), NYIT stood No. 1, Mercyhurst was No. 2, C.W. Post was No. 3, Dowling was No. 4 and Adelphi was No. 5. 

Dowling: Dowling upset #2 NYIT 15-14 in front of a packed crowd of 2,248 at Golden Lions Field on Saturday.  Nick Cotter scored 5 goals including the game winner with 12 ticks left.  Along with Cotter, Dowling was led by Kyle O'Brien and Ryan Campbell who each had a hat-trick and added two assists.  In goal, Nick Tracey made 12 stops.   

C.W. Post: The Pioneers won their only contest of the week, a 19-4 victory over Dominican College, and ended the season with an 11-3 overall record, their highest win total since 1999, and a 4-2 ECC record.  Greg Cerar closed out the season with two goals and three assists against Dominican, pushing his team-leading goal tally to 44 on the season, along with 24 assist.  Dave Loftus had a career day with seven goals and two assists, and Mike Giordano closed out his rookie season with a 4-0 record, making six saves against Dominican.  Head coach John Jez improves his career record at C.W. Post to 20-7. 

Mercyhurst: The No.7 Mercyhurst men's lacrosse team sent its seniors out in style Saturday with a convincing 14-8 upset win over No.6 Adelphi. Mike Bartlett led the Lakers with four goals, one in each period of play. Adelphi scored four of its eight goals in the first fifteen minutes of play. The Laker defensive unit and goalkeeper Jason LaShomb would hold Adelphi to only nine shots over the second and third periods and allow only two goals. Lashomb recorded nine saves in the win.In the final three periods of play, Mercyhurst outscored the Panthers 11-4. Eight different people tallied goals and nine of the Lakers' goals were unassisted. Mike Thon stepped up with Bartlett and put three goals of his own in the back of the net. Tyler Burton recorded two goals while Zach Manuel, Jordan Witt and Todd Richardson tallied one. Mike Sciulli tallied one goal and two assists on the day while senior Scott Sullivan dished out one assist.

Adelphi: Adelphi closed out the 2008 season with a record of 7-5 overall, an improvement over last year's 5-8 mark. senior Jesse Corben helped the Panthers control the face-off circle, winning 20-25 face-offs and collecting 12 ground balls in Adelphi's 14-8 loss to Mercyhurst on May 3.
