LIU Post Loses to No. 6 SNHU in NCAA Tournament, 15-3

Manchester, N.H. - The fourth-seeded LIU Post baseball team dropped a 15-3 decision to No. 6 and top-seeded Southern New Hampshire University on Friday at the 2017 NCAA Division II East Region Championship at Penmen Field.

With the loss, the Pioneers (31-19) will now face seventh-seeded Dominican College on Saturday (May 20) in an elimination game at 11 a.m. in Manchester.

The green and gold jumped out to an early 1-0 lead in the first inning, after junior outfielder Rob Andreoli (North Wantagh, N.Y.) hit into an RBI groundout that scored junior shortstop Joe Spitaleri (Levittown, N.Y.) for the game's opening run.

However, the Pioneers were unable to contain the power surge of the Penmen (42-9), who exploded for 15 runs on 17 hits in the contest.

Three different players went deep for SNHU in the outburst, while graduate third baseman Zach Goldstein (Merrick, N.Y.) had three RBI hits in the effort for the hosts.

Freshman pitcher Noah Lorenzo (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) took the loss in the decision for LIU Post. He threw 2.2 innings of seven-hit, seven-run, four-walk, one-strikeout ball.

Senior outfielder Kenny Daley (Glenwood Landing, N.Y.), sophomore second baseman Sal Geraci (Bayport, N.Y.) and Andreoli all registered a pair of hits for the Pioneers in the contest. Senior catcher Thomas Asbaty (Randolph, N.J.) contributed a solo blast in the seventh for his lone hit of the day.
