LIU Post's Jagiello Drafted By Los Angeles Dodgers

Secaucus, N.J. - LIU Post baseball senior pitcher Dan Jagiello (West Islip, N.Y.) was selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers in the 34th round of the 2017 Major League Baseball First-Year Player Draft on Wednesday afternoon.

Jagiello, who was chosen with the 1,030th overall pick, is the first Pioneer to be drafted since LIU Post joined the ECC in 2003 after a stint as a Division I program. Jagiello is also the first draft pick from LIU Post since 1994 when current Head Softball Coach Jamie Apicella was selected by the San Francisco Giants and Steve Frascatore was picked by the Toronto Blue Jays.

Jagiello also becomes the 39th player in ECC history to be selected in the MLB First-Year Player Draft and the first from the conference to ever be selected by the Los Angeles Dodgers.

"I am beyond excited to start another baseball chapter in my life," Jagiello said. "I am glad that my dream has only begun and looking forward to getting better. I'd like to thank everyone who has been with me on this journey, including all of my family, friends, coaches and teammates."

"I am just so happy for Dan and his family. No one deserves it more than he does," Head Baseball Coach Mike Gaffney said. "He has been rewarded for putting in a tireless work ethic and overcoming adversity. I think the best has yet to come for him in baseball. He has got what it takes to have a long career in the game."

Gaffney also added: "For us as a program, it is always exciting to see one of our guys able to live out a dream and continue their career at the professional level."

On the mound, Jagiello pitched his way to All-East Coast Conference First Team honors for the Pioneers in 2017. He set program and ECC single-season records with 12 saves and boasted a team-best 1.93 earned-run average in the process.

Additionally, Jagiello struck out multiple batters in 13 of his 14 save opportunities, en route to garnering NCBWA, ABCA and D2CCA All-Region accolades.
