St. Thomas Aquinas and LIU Post Selected for NCAA Baseball Championship

Indianapolis - The St. Thomas Aquinas and LIU Post baseball teams will compete for a National Championship after claiming two of the seven spots in the NCAA Division II Baseball Championship East Region bracket that was announced on Sunday evening.

St. Thomas Aquinas is the highest seeded team from the ECC, earning the No. 3 seed. The Spartans (38-15), who were the ECC's Regular Season Champions, earn one of the region's four at-large bids. This will be the fifth straight appearance in the NCAA Championship for the Spartans.

Joining the Spartans in the bracket is LIU Post (30-18). The Pioneers, who earned the league's automatic berth by claiming their first ECC title since 2010 earlier today, will be the No. 4 seed. This will be the 10th all-time NCAA appearance for the Pioneers and the third berth (2008, 2010) since the school was one of the founding members of the ECC (then NYCAC) in 1991.

St. Thomas Aquinas will open the tournament against No. 6 seed, Southern Connecticut State (27-14-1). This will be the fifth all-time meeting between the two, with Southern Connecticut State holding a 3-1 edge. The two schools last met in March of 2016 with a pair of games with each side winning once.

LIU Post's first round opponent will be No. 5, Felician (33-13). The Pioneers and Golden Falcons played once this season, way back on February 24 in Myrtle Beach, S.C. LIU Post was victorious in that game by a final score of 9-5. This will be the 14th-ever meeting between the two schools, with Felician currently holding a narrow 7-6 lead in the series.

The other teams participating in the tournament are No. 1 Southern New Hampshire (41-9), NE10 Champion and No. 3 seed New Haven (30-11) and No. 7 seed and Central Atlantic Collegiate Conference Champion, Dominican (21-27).

The double-elimination East Regional will commence on Thursday, May 18 and run through Monday, May 22 at the SNHU Baseball Field on the campus of Southern New Hampshire University in Manchester, New Hampshire. The winner of the tournament will advance to the NCAA Division II World Series at The Ballpark in Grand Prairie in Grand Prairie, Texas which runs from May 27 - June 3.
