Brendan Butler of the Dowling College baseball team has been selected by the Oakland Athletics in the 30th Round of the 2015 Major League Baseball Draft. Butler was selected 908th overall.
In his only season at Dowling, the 6-3 right hander helped the Golden Lions to a share of the ECC Regular Season Championship by accumulating 47 strikeouts in 58.2 innings of work en route to a 5-3 record and a 3.84 ERA.
The Sayville, N.Y. native becomes the sixth player in Golden Lions' history to be selected in the MLB Draft. His selection in the 30th round makes him the second highest draftee in program history. This is also the second straight season Dowling has had a right handed starting pitcher drafted, after former ECC Pitcher of the Year, Tyler Badamo, was selected by the New York Mets in the 24th Round in 2014.
