STAC's Baerga Named NCBWA East Region Hitter of the Week

Bridgeport, Conn. - Junior outfielder, Rich Baerga (Pomona, N.Y.) of St. Thomas Aquinas College, has been selected as this week’s East Region National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Hitter of the Week for games played from March 17-23, 2014.

The East Coast Conference Player of the Week, Baerga continued his torrid pace at the plate in the lead-off spot, hitting safely in all four games this week in the sweep of Bridgeport, including a four-hit effort in game one on Friday. In Sunday’s 3-2 victory in game two, Rich’s two-out RBI single in the fourth inning proved to be the game-winner. Overall, Baerga finished the series with 10 hits in 18 at-bats for a .556 batting average. He also added six runs, two RBI, and two stolen bases.

Dowling and St. Thomas Aquinas also maintain their spots in this week's NCBWA East Region poll, coming in at No. 6 and No. 7 resepctively. LIU Post also received votes in the poll, finishing a few points out of the tenth and final spot.
