Graczyk, Duran & Craig Headline ECC Baseball All-Conference Awards

Central Islip, NY- Freshman outfielder, Zack Graczyk (C.W. Post) has been tabbed the 2010 ECC Baseball Player of the Year, as selected by the league’s coaches.  For the second straight year, Gabriel Duran (So., Dowling College) has been named the 2010 Pitcher of the Year while teammate Sean Craig was named Rookie of the Year. 

Graczyk had a stellar freshman campaign in which he amassed a conference leading batting average of .391, in the leadoff spot for the Pioneers.  Graczyk also led the conference in on-base percentage (.459) and runs scored (48) while ranking second with 63 hits on the season.  The two-time ECC Player of the Week recorded a 2-2 mark on the mound along with three saves while compiling a 1.64 ERA in his 22 innings pitched.  In the outfielder, Graczyk compiled a perfect fielding percentage.

Duran compiled a 5-3 record on the mound for the Golden Lions this season.  He led the nation with an ERA of 0.74, allowing only five earned runs in his nine appearances.  He ranked second in the nation averaging 4.6 hits per game while leading the ECC with a .150 opposing batting average. Duran recorded two no-hitters this year, against both Mercy and Bridgeport, where he recorded 21 strikeouts between the two games.  He also recorded a season high 14 strikeouts against Queens College and finished with 68 strikeouts on the season.

Craig posted a .341 batting average to rank sixth in the ECC this season.  The two-time Rookie of the Week recorded a .488 slugging percentage which was fourth in the ECC and his nine doubles placed him fifth among the category leaders.  Craig drove in 11 RBIs as the Golden Lions’ designated hitter and was 19-21 in stolen base attempts. 

C.W. Post head coach Pete Timmes was named the 2010 Coach of the Year by his peers.  Timmes guided the Pioneers to an overall record of 28-14-1 and a the East Coast Conference Regular Season title. This huge turnaround came after a 7th place finish and overall record of 13-32 in 2009.  Currently, the Pioneers are ranked No. 7 in the East Region.
