Baden Player of the Week

Brian Anderson, C.W. Post (Jr., C, Nesconset, N.Y.) - Anderson batted .471 (8-17) during the ECC baseball tournament with five runs scored and four driven in.  As a result, he was named the tournament's Most Outstanding Player. 

Baden Pitcher of the Week

Keith Karlsen, C.W. Post (Sr., Farmingdale, N.Y.) - Karlsen made two appearances during the ECC baseball tournament and shut down opposing batters, recording no earned runs while allowing just eight hits in 5.2 innings pitched.

Baden Rookie of the Week

Mitch Rossi, New Haven (Fr., RHP, Bristol, Conn.) - Rossi picked up a victory over Adelphi in the ECC tournament and held opponents scoreless in 4 1/3 innings over two appearances in the tournament.  He went 2 2/3 innings in a 6-5 win over Adelphi on Sunday, sending the Chargers through to the championship game.

ECC Notebook

ECC: Franklin Pierce will host the 2008 NCAA Division II Northeast Regional Baseball Championship this weekend, May 15-18. The Ravens are the top seed. The field also includes second-seeded Bryant (39-19), third-seeded Southern Connecticut (36-17), No. 4 Caldwell (32-17), No. 5 Dowling (28-17), and No. 6 C.W. Post (29-25).

C.W. Post: C.W. Post (29-25) went a perfect 4-0 in the ECC tournament to claim its first-ever conference championship title.  The Pioneers advance to the Northeast Regional for the first time since 1985 - head coach Pete Timmes' senior year. Junior catcher Brian Anderson batted .471 in the tournament with eight hits, five runs scored and four driven in and was named tournament Most Outstanding Player.  Senior Keith Karlsen made two appearances for the Pioneers and posted 2-0 record with no earned runs allowed in 5.2 innings pitched. 

New Haven: The Chargers finished second at the ECC Baseball Championships after falling to C.W. Post, 5-1 on Sunday.  UNH defeated Adelphi twice to advance to the title game, but fell to C.W. Post twice.  Kyle Bombace led UNH at the tournament with a .538 average (7-13), while Nick Sperounis and Jimmy Rivas both hit 6-for-14 (.429).  Adam Rozum drove in three runs.  On the pitching side, Matt Sommo struck out 11 in a nine-inning complete game win over Adelphi on the first day of the tourney, while freshman Mitch Rossi picked up a win over Adelphi on Sunday and held opponents scoreless in 4 1/3 relief innings.  UNH ends its season with a 24-25 record, the 32nd time in program history that the team has won at least 24 games.  After an 0-8 start, UNH finished the year with a 24-17 record after that point.  They claimed a share of the regular season tri-championship with a 17-10 ECC record.

Adelphi: Adelphi went 2-2 in the ECC playoffs falling one game short of the finals. The Panthers went 11-3 over their final 14 games to earn a spot in the ECC Playoffs. Junior Bobby Lanigan pitched Adelphi into the double elimination portion of the ECC Playoffs. On May 7 Lanigan gave a three-hit, seven strike out complete game performance to help the Panthers to a 3-0 win over C.W. Post, ousting the Pioneers from the ECC tournament. Lanigan also took the mound in in the ninth in Adelphi's 6-5 loss to New Haven. Lanigan strike out two, and gave up no runs, giving Adelphi one last chance to extend their season.
