Baden Player of the Week

T.J. Greig, Molloy (So., OF, Staten Island, N.Y. / Xaverian HS) -  Hit 542 and slugged .833 in a 2-4 week with 12 hits (5 2B, 3B) 14 RBI and five runs scored. Notched three hits and knocked in five in a 16-5 win over UMass-Lowell. In an 8-6 loss to UML, added three hits and two RBI.  He had two hits (RBI) in an 8-6 loss to Southern Conn. (DH) and added three hits (3 R, 4 RBI) in a 9-8 game two victory. Scored the lone run (2 H) in an 8-1 loss to Palm Beach Atlantic.

Baden Pitcher of the Week

Bobby Kay, C.W. Post (Jr., SP, Stony Brook, N.Y. / Ward Melville) - Made two appearances pitching 8.1 innings, including a seven-inning four-hit shutout victory (1-0) with seven strikeouts against Stonehill (1-0).  

Baden Rookie of the Week

Mark Fochesato, St. Thomas Aquinas (Fr., P, Middletown, N.Y. / Pine Bush) - Posted a 1-1 mark over two appearances allowing five hits, two earned runs and struck out six in 8.2 innings. Held Franklin Pierce to four hits in 4.2 innings allowing one earned run. Picked up the win against Post allowing one hit and one earned run over four innings.

ECC Notebook

ECC: In this week's NCBWA Northeast Regional Poll, Adelphi stands No. 3, Dowling is No. 5, Molloy is No. 10 and C.W. Post is receiving votes.

Dowling: Rich Barry pitched 8 2/3 innings against Southern Connecticut in a 2-1 win with four strikeouts, one walk bb, and allowed one run.

St. Thomas Aquinas: The Spartans went 5-5 on their Florida road trip, sweeping St. Rose, splitting three double headers, and then losing twice to top rated Franklin Pierce (in game one STAC was up 5-0 before losing 6-5). In their 7-4 win against Mercy, 1B Vin Malzahn had a perfect day going 3-for-3, with a 2B, 3B, and a HR (missed the cycle by a single). He also had two walks and scored 3 times. In the young season, three of the Spartan freshmen pitchers (Mike Aviles, Chris Schoepe, and Mark Fochesato) picked up their first collegiate victories. Closer John Della Monica has 3 saves and 1 win and 10 K's in 8 innings of work.

C.W. Post: C.W. Post went 2-2 last week at home.  The Pioneers picked up a 6-1 win over Dominican and split a doubleheader with Stonehill.  Junior Bobby Kay pitched a seven inning complete game with nine strikeouts and four hits against Stonehill to earn his second win of the season.  Sophomore Brian Saldana pitched the Pioneers past Dominican with a 7.2 inning effort complete with nine strikeouts.  Kay came on in the eighth for the save.  The Pioneers will host St. Thomas Aquinas and Bridgeport this week before heading on the road to play at Bloomfield and Bridgeport.

Bridgeport: The Purple Knights went 2-4 on their season-opening trip to Florida.  UB is scehuled to open the northern section of its 2008 schedule with a home game versus Post University on Wednesday.  Bridgeport opens ECC play with a series against CW Post.  The two teams will play a single game on Long Island on Friday and a doubleheader in Bridgeport on Saturday.

Adelphi: Adelphi posted a record of 2-5 on their southern swing last weekend, picking up wins over Northwood and Nova Southeastern. The Panthers are currently 4-9 overall and return to action on Thursday, March 20 when they play host to Briar Cliff at 3:30 pm in Garden City, N.Y.

Mercy: The Mavericks completed their trip to Florida with a 2-4 record, and now stand at 4-9 on the year. After falling to St. Thomas Aquinas 7-4, Mercy split at Southeastern, taking the first game 9-5 and dropping the nightcap 9-2. The Mavericks were then swept by Southern Connecticut State, 11-0 and 6-1. Sophomore catcher Marc Dern (Valley Stream, NY) batted .556 in three games, going 5-for-9 with a double and two runs batted in. Senior Steve Summer (East Meadow, NY) batted .357 in four games, going 5-for-14 with a double and two runs driven in.  Freshman Steve Marsar (Seaford, NY) made the most of his first collegiate start on the hill at Southeastern, tossing the first five innings and allowing just one run on four hits to earn his second win of the season. Freshman outfielder Graig Lauricella (North Massapequa, NY) leads Mercy in hitting on the year with a .350 batting average and a .500 on base percentage. Marsar has lowered his earned run average to 2.08 in six appearances. The Mavericks are slated to play three non-conference games (Bloomfield, Southern Vermont, Briarcliffe) this week, before opening up ECC play at New Haven on Saturday.
