In our third installment, we share insight from Ryan Heath, a sophomore guard on the No. 1 Division II men's basketball team in the country, Daemen. 

Why is it important to recognize and celebrate Black History Month?
Black History Month is very important because it honors the profound contributions of Black individuals to society, highlighting their impact throughout the years on culture, science, politics, and more. It serves as a reminder of the struggles faced by Black communities and the ongoing fight for equality and justice. By recognizing this month, we foster a deeper understanding, respect, and appreciation for diversity, helping to combat racial prejudice and promote unity.

What does Black History Month mean to you?
To me, it means that it is a time to reflect on the resilience, creativity, and achievements of black individuals throughout history. It's also an opportunity to recognize the importance of their stories and ensure their legacies continue to inspire future generations.

Who is a member of the Black community who has made an impact on your life?
Martin Luther King, Jr. because he inspired all races to come together as one and inspired me to believe in the power of peaceful resistance and the importance of fighting for justice and equality, regardless of the challenges.
