ECC Women's Basketball Report - Week 12

Player of the Week

Sofie Fuglsang, D’Youville
Senior | F | Oberanven, Luxembourg

Fuglsang was a spark plug for the Saints this weekend, averaging 23.0 points per game, 6.5 rebounds per game, and 3.0 assists per game while shooting 9-of-15 from beyond the arc. In Friday's 61-40 win over District of Columbia, the DYU senior forward scored a career-high 24 points on 6-of-8 shooting from three, grabbed five rebounds, and recorded two steals. On Sunday, Fuglsang continued to lead DYU's offense, scoring 22 points on 50 percent shooting (9-of-18) with eight rebounds and two blocks.


Defensive Player of the Week

Grace Dow, Roberts Wesleyan
Senior | F | Syracuse, NY

Dow led Roberts Wesleyan on the defensive end of the floor over the weekend, totaling 25 rebounds - 19 of which were defensive - to go with three steals and five blocks across two games. Against Mercy, Dow pulled down nine rebounds (seven defensive) and added three steals and four blocks with eight points in 31 minutes. In the 60-49 win over St. Thomas Aquinas, Dow posted a double-double with 15 points and 16 rebounds (12 defensive) with a blocked shot in 36 minutes.


Rookie of the Week

Aliviya Vallone Russell, D’Youville
Freshman | G | Buffalo, NY

Vallone Russell averaged 14.0 points per game, 4.5 rebounds per game, and 3.5 assists per game for the Saints this weekend. In Friday's 61-40 win over District of Columbia, she drained six three-pointers en route to a career-high 18 points, grabbed five rebounds, and dished out four assists in 35 minutes. On Sunday against Staten Island, the DYU freshman guard scored 10 points, grabbed four rebounds, dished out three assists, and recorded a steal in 37 minutes. On the weekend, Vallone Russell drained eight three-pointers. 


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Amani Abuhatab, Mercy
Sophomore | G | West Haven, CT

Abuhatab had 12 points on 5-of-10 shooting with six rebounds and a game-high five steals in the win over Roberts Wesleyan on Friday. 

Amber Abusbeih, Staten Island
Graduate Student | G | Staten Island, NY

Abusbeih posted averages of 18.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 3.0 assists per game this week as the Dolphins went 1-1 in conference play.  On Friday against Daemen, she scored 11 points, marking her third straight game in double figures. On Sunday against D'Youville, she scored in double figures for a fourth straight game with a season-high 25 points. The CSI graduate student also added 11 rebounds and five assists in the Dolphins’ win over the Saints.

Nkiru Awaka, Queens
Sophomore | F | Hyde Park, NY

In their lone game of the week against Molloy sophomore forward Nkiru Awaka recorded her ninth double-double of the year and sixth straight with a game-high 18 points on 7-of-12 shooting, 13 rebounds, five steals, two blocks, and two assists for the Knights. 

Angelina Barrera, Mercy
Junior | F | Gloucester City, NJ

Barrera had a game-high 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting with a team-high eight rebounds and five assists to go with two steals in the Mavericks' win over Roberts Wesleyan on Friday. The junior helped lead a Mercy defense that allowed their fewest points (29) in an ECC game in program history. 

Ne'vaeh Buntley, Daemen
Freshman | F | Rochester, NY

Buntley averaged 10.0 points per game and 9.5 rebounds per game in Daemen's weekend victories over Staten Island and District of Columbia. The freshman led Daemen offensively on Friday night with 12 points and chipped in nine rebounds. Buntley was strong from the free throw line and made a difference for the ‘Cats down the stretch in both games, totaling 10 of 12 from the charity stipe over the weekend. 

Danielle DiCintio, Daemen
Graduate Student | G | Somers, NY

DiCintio averaged 14.5 points per game and helped lead Daemen to a pair of close victories over Staten Island and District of Columbia this weekend. The graduate student guard totaled 29 points and shot 30% from the field, knocking down seven triples while adding nine rebounds, nine steals, four assists and two blocks on the weekend. She tied Daemen's single-game steal record in the NCAA era (7) in Friday night's win and led the Wildcats in Sunday's matchup with 18 points. 

Danielle Hippner, Molloy
Senior | C | East Meadow, NY

Hippner continued to be a force in the middle of the Molloy defense in a 2-0 week for the Lions. The senior began the week collecting five blocks and seven rebounds while helping hold Post to shooting 25 percent from the floor in a victory Thursday. For an encore, the center helped Molloy pick up an ECC victory over Queens, totaling three blocks, nine rebounds, and holding the Knights to 34 percent shooting from the floor. On the week, Hippner averaged eight rebounds, five points, and four blocks per game.

Laci Johnson, District of Columbia
Senior | G | Herndon, VA

Johnson averaged 18.0 points per game and 4.5 rebounds per game over two games this weekend, posting 15 points and six rebounds against Daemen and a game-high 21 points against D’Youville.

Arianna Lopez, Queens
Freshman | G | Newburgh, NY

In their lone game of the week against Molloy rookie point guard Arianna Lopez recorded a career-high 17 points and tied a career-high five assists to go with one steal and one assist for the Knights. 

Tori Williams, District of Columbia
Senior | G | Fairfield, OH

Williams averaged a double-double over two games this weekend with 12.5 points per game and 10.0 rebounds per game to go with 1.5 steals and 1.0 blocks.
