ECC Men's Basketball Report - Week 11

Player of the Week

Messiah Mallory, Staten Island
Senior | F | Watervliet, NY

Mallory averaged 25.0 points, 6.5 rebounds, and 4.0 blocks per game this week as the Dolphins went 1-1 in conference play. In Wednesday's 87-77 win over Molloy, the CSI senior scored a career-high 37 points on 11-of-22 shooting from the field, 3-of-5 shooting from beyond the arc, and 12-of-13 shooting from the line. He blocked five shots and grabbed five rebounds in the win before collecting three more blocks and eight rebounds with 13 points against Queens on Saturday.


Defensive Player of the Week

Omar Nkonde, Queens
Senior | C | Harlem, NY

In a 1-1 ECC week, Nkonde averaged 8.0 points 9.0 rebounds, 5.0 blocks, 1.5 assists, and 1.0 steals per game for the Knights. In the 65-61 victory over Staten Island, Nkonde just missed a triple-double with 10 points, a career-best 13 rebounds (nine defensive), and nine blocks - a new single-game program record for the Knights to go with two steals and two assists. The nine blocks tie for the most in a single game across all of NCAA Division II this season. 


Rookie of the Week

Ethan Robertson, Mercy
Freshman | F | Boston, MA

Robertson had a game-high 22 points on 8-of-16 shooting with 12 rebounds, one assist, and one steal against STAC on Saturday. 


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Nasan Ayala, Queens
Senior | G | Lefrak City, NY

In a 1-1 ECC week, Ayala averaged 11.5 points, 7.0 rebounds, 2.0 steals, and 1.0 assists per game for the Knights. The Queens senior guard began the week recording 14 points on 50.0 percent shooting with nine rebounds, three steals, and two assists against District of Columbia on Wednesday evening. Ayala would conclude the week with nine points, five rebounds, and one steal in the 65-61 victory over Staten Island as Queens improved to 4-4 in conference play and third in the standings.

Arnardo Camacho, Roberts Wesleyan
Junior | G | Bronx, NY

Junior Arnardo Camacho had a good week despite a pair of losses for the Redhawks. He scored at least 20 points in each league game and had a solid stats line with 43 points, 12 rebounds (all defensive), four blocked shots, six steals and 11 assists. Against Daemen, he scored a team-leading 22 points with six rebounds, three steals and seven assists. He currently ranks in the ECC third in rebounds, third in steals, first in assists and fifth in assist-to-turnover ratio.

Rob Matos, Molloy
Sophomore | G | Fredericksburg, VA

Matos led the Lions with 24.0 points per game, shooting at 44 percent from the field. The sophomore matched a career-high 30 points at Staten Island and added 18 points and eight assists at District of Columbia. 

David Pope, District of Columbia
Graduate Student | Forward | Cheltenham PA

In the Firebirds’ 63-61 comeback win over Queens, Pope posted 17 points on 6-of-10 shooting from the field to go with three rebounds, three steals, and two blocks.

Troy'reon Ramos, St. Thomas Aquinas
Junior | G | Pine Bluff, AR

Ramos posted 15 points, five rebounds, three assists and a steal in 23 minutes in a 75-73 road win at Mercy. The junior guard shot 71.4 percent (5-of-7) from the field, 75.0 percent (3-of-4) from beyond the arc and 67.0 percent (2-for-3) from the charity stripe.

Nathan Robertson, Mercy
Freshman | G | Boston, MA

Robertson had 12 points, a game-high nine assists, five rebounds, one block and one steal against STAC on Saturday. 

Jermaine Taggart II, Roberts Wesleyan
Senior | G | Rochester, NY

Senior Jermaine Taggart II put up some solid numbers for the week with a total of 39 points and nine rebounds. Against Daemen, he scored 21 points and had a pair of rebounds and in the D'Youville game, he scored 18 and grabbed seven rebounds.

Elisha Warren, D’Youville
Redshirt Sophomore | G | Woodhaven, MI

Warren had a strong week for the Saints, helping them snap an 11-game losing streak and picking up their first ECC win of the year in a double-overtime thriller over Roberts Wesleyan. Warren posted a career-high 25 points while grabbing 12 rebounds to record his third double-double of the season.
