ECC Men's Soccer Report - Week Four

Offensive Player of the Week

Harry Cooke, Queens
Junior | Forward | Market Drayton, England

In a 2-0 week for the Knights, Cooke led the way with an ECC-high 10-point week with four goals (two game-winners) and two assists. Cooke began the week with an astounding eight-point effort on three goals and two assists in Queens’ 7-0 non-conference victory over Chestnut Hill on Thursday. He then netted his second game-winning goal of the week in the Knights’ 2-0 conference road win over D’Youville on Saturday.


Defensive Player of the Week

Johan Morales, St. Thomas Aquinas 
Junior | Goalkeeper | Norristown, PA

Morales recorded back-to-back shutout performances for STAC in a 1-0-1 week. The junior goalkeeper made three saves in a critical 4-0 non-conference win over Assumption, who entered the week ranking fifth in the East Region, on Tuesday. He then made five stops in a scoreless conference draw with Daemen on Saturday. 


Rookie of the Week

Bastian Engeli, Queens
Freshman | Midfielder | Bergen, Norway

Engeli recorded his first career goal in a 7-0 non-conference victory over Chestnut Hill on Thursday before assisting on Harry Cooke’s game-winning goal and playing the full 90:00 out of the midfield in Queens’ 2-0 ECC road victory over D’Youville on Saturday.


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Kevon Evans, St. Thomas Aquinas
Senior | Forward | Ossining, NY

Evans hit the back of the net twice with in STAC’s 4-0 non-conference win over Assumption, ranked fifth in the East Region this week, on Tuesday and played the full 90:00 in STAC’s scoreless conference draw with Daemen on Saturday as the Spartans improved to 5-1-1 on the year. The senior forward also became the first NCAA Division II men’s soccer player to reach double-digits in goal scoring this season.

Johannes Hanken Tjostheim, Mercy
Junior | Forward | Aalesund, Norway

Hanken Tjostheim scored twice and added an assist in Mercy's 5-1 conference road win at UDC on Saturday. The junior is now tied for the ECC lead in goals (10) and points (22). 

Julian Holland, Mercy
Senior | Defender | Tokyo, Japan

Holland scored a goal and helped lead a Mercy backline that allowed just one goal and three shots on goal in the Mavericks' 5-1 conference road win at UDC on Saturday. 

Eric Jewson, Roberts Wesleyan
Junior | Goalkeeper | Binghamton, NY

Jewson came off the bench and jumped into the starting roll this week and produced a pair of shutout victories as the Redhawks defeated Slippery Rock, 4-0, on the road and downed CSI by the same score in a home conference game. The reserve goalkeeper has started three games in his career and has not allowed a goal in any of the contests.

Joaquim Johnson, Queens
Senior | Defender | Brooklyn, NY

Johnson notched one goal and helped the Knights record two shutouts on the week. Johnson opened the week recording his fourth career goal in the 7-0 non-conference victory over Chestnut Hill on Thursday before playing a pivotal part in helping Queens earn a 2-0 ECC victory over D’Youville on Saturday.

Tamas Nagy, Roberts Wesleyan
Fifth Year | Forward | Szár, Hungary

Nagy recorded his 100th career point last week with a goal against Slippery Rock on Wednesday. The fifth year forward finished the week with two goals and one assist for the Redhawks, who went 2-0 on the week, and now has 38 goals and 27 assists for 103 points in his career.

Myles Palmer, Roberts Wesleyan
Sophomore | Forward | Fairport, NY

Palmer had another big offensive game with a hat trick against Slippery Rock in a 4-0 non-conference road win on Wednesday.

Ethan Robinson, D’Youville
Sophomore | Forward | Toronto, Ontario

Robinson scored the game-winning goal in the Saints' 2-1 win over Seton Hill, who received votes in national polls, on Wednesday. 

Thanasis Shehadeh, Queens
Sophomore | Goalkeeper | Nicosia, Cyprus

Shehadeh made his first pair of career starts last week and led the Knights to two shutout victories. Earning his first career start against Chestnut Hill on Thursday, Shehadeh recorded two saves to earn his first career victory and shutout in the 7-0 non-conference win. In the 2-0 ECC victory over D’Youville on Saturday, the sophomore recorded a first-half save for his first career ECC victory.

Miguel Soto Gonzalez, Queens
Sophomore | Forward | Madrid, Spain

In a 2-0 week for the Knights, Soto Gonzalez notched a six-point week with two goals and two assists. In the 7-0 victory over Chestnut Hill on Thursday, the sophomore recorded his second career brace to go with his first career assist. On Saturday against D’Youville, Soto Gonzalez recorded his second assist of the season as he delivered a cross in the 83rd minute for Andrew Johnson to put the Knights up 2-0 and earn their second ECC victory of the year.
