St. Thomas Aquinas’ Mena Jimenez, D’Youville’s Capolupo Named Most Outstanding Athletes of 2024 ECC Outdoor T&F Championships

WEST BABYLON, N.Y. – St. Thomas Aquinas senior Emmanuel Mena Jimenez (West Haverstraw, N.Y.) and D’Youville freshman Jenna Capolupo (Wheatfield, N.Y.) have been selected the 2024 ECC Outdoor Track & Field Championships Most Outstanding Athletes for their respective genders, as voted on by the league’s head coaches and announced on Friday afternoon.

Mena Jimenez won three individual events at the conference meet up at Roberts Wesleyan on Thursday, May 2. The St. Thomas Aquinas senior standout won the discus in 53.92m (176’ 11”), which met the NCAA Division II provisional mark and broke STAC’s program record, as well as as the shot put in 15.18m (49’ 9 3/4”) and hammer throw in 53.60m (175’ 10”). In all, Mena Jimenez took home 20 percent of STAC’s total points (30/149), as the Spartans placed second as a team. 

Capolupo medaled in four events for the Saints, collecting 34 of D’Youville’s 86 total points. The DYU rookie standout won both the 100m (12.04) and long jump (5.62m/18' 5.25”) and placed second in the 200m (25.22) before running the leadoff leg of the 4x100m relay that placed third. Capolupo’s 100m performance leads the ECC and ties for fourth in the NCAA East Region (first among all rookies).
