Molloy, St. Thomas Aquinas Share ECC Regular-Season Title, Lions Take Top Seed for Softball Championship

WEST BABYLON, N.Y. - The East Coast Conference has announced the bracket for the 2024 ECC Softball Championship, which will run from Thursday, May 2 through Saturday, May 4 at Molloy’s Bob Klein Field at the Rockville Centre Sports Complex. Molloy, St. Thomas Aquinas, Queens, and Mercy will compete for the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Division II Softball Championship. 

No. 1 Molloy and No. 2 St. Thomas Aquinas shared the ECC Regular-Season Championship for the second straight year after finishing with identical 16-4 conference records. 

Molloy (28-20), runner-up for the last two years, are back in the bracket for the 14th time in 15 seasons and are in search of their sixth ECC title and first since 2016.

No. 4 Mercy (14-26, 8-12 ECC) will be Molloy's opening opponent. Back in the bracket for the fourth straight year, the Mavericks are looking to win their first ECC crown since the 2017 season.

The Lions swept the Mavs, 4-0, in the regular season.

Defending champion St. Thomas Aquinas (29-21) is locked into the second seed in its fifth straight tournament appearance. 

The Spartans will face No. 3 Queens (17-25, 10-10 ECC) in the opening round; this is the Knights’ second tournament birth in a row and second since the 2015 season in which they won their third ECC title.

STAC took three of four from Queens during their regular-season matchups.

All games during the championship will be broadcast live on the ECC Network website and the ECC Network app on Apple and Android mobile devices and on Amazon Fire TV, Android TV, Apple TV, and Roku streaming devices.

Thursday, May 2
Game One: No. 4 Mercy at No. 1 Molloy – 12:00 p.m.
Game Two: No. 3 Queens at No. 2 St. Thomas Aquinas – 2:30 p.m.

Friday, May 3
Game Three: Game One winner vs. Game Two winner - 11:00 a.m.
Game Four: Game One loser vs. Game Two loser -1:30 p.m.
Game Five: Game Three loser vs. Game Four winner - 4:00 p.m.

Saturday, May 4
Game Six: Game Three winner vs. Game Five winner - 12:00 p.m.
Game Seven: If necessary - 30 minutes after field prep is completed
