ECC Men's Tennis Report - Week Eight

Player of the Week

Louis Mangeon, District of Columbia
Graduate Student | Belbeuf, France

Mangeon went 4-0 in a 2-0 week at No. 1 singles and doubles. In both wins over Daemen and West Chester, Mangeon teamed up with Louka Queguiner to defeat their opponents 6-2.  In singles play, he won 6-1, 6-2 against Juan Alvarez from Daemen and 6-2, 6-0 against Andres Urrutia from West Chester.


Rookie of the Week

Noah Gauthier, Queens
Freshman | La Colle-sur-Loup, France

Gauthier went 3-0 in singles play at No. 5 and No. 6 singles on the week. Gauthier began the week earning a two-set victory over Post’s Josh Cronje at No. 5 singles before he defeated Division 1 FDU Matias Neira at No. 6 singles in a convincing two-set victory to the score of 6-0, 6-2 Tuesday afternoon. Gauthier completed the undefeated week with a two-set victory over STAC’s Lennart Lehmann to the score of 6-4, 7-6 (8-6) as Queens completed the series sweep over the Spartans Saturday afternoon. 


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Lucas Foix Sotos, Queens
Sophomore | Javea, Spain

Foix Sotos went 3-0 in singles play, earning two victories at No. 3 singles and a match-clinching victory at No. 5 singles. At No. 3 singles on the week, Sotos began the week earning a two-set victory over Post’s Dante Despontin to the score of 6-1, 6-1 before a three-set comeback victory over Division 1 FDU Tauras Mickus to the score of 5-7, 6-4, 7-6 (7-5). The sophomore would complete his week with a match-clinching victory over STAC’s Henry Ronnberg in another three-set comeback victory to the score of 2-6, 6-3, 6-3 at No. 5 singles as Queens completed the series-clinching victory over the Spartans on Saturday afternoon.

Seth Newman, St. Thomas Aquinas
Freshman | Cambridge, England

Newman went 1-1 in the Spartans’ lone match last week, a 5-2 ECC setback to Queens. The freshman from Cambridge, England put up a gritty effort with partner Henry Ronnberg in a loss at No. 3 doubles before taking STAC's only singles match victory against the Knights’ Omar El Shehawey at the No. 4 position.

Louka Queguiner, District of Columbia
Sophomore | La Ciotat, France

Queguiner went 4-0 on the week in a 2-0 week for UDC. He teamed up with Louis Mangeon at the No. 1 spot to win 6-2 against Daemen and West Chester in doubles play. In singles play, he defeated Alex Lumanog from Daemen 6-1, 6-0 and Felix Weber 6-0, 6-1 from West Chester at No. 2.

Roni Rikkonen, Queens
Senior | Tampere, Finland

In his lone singles match of the week, Rikkonen helped the Knights complete the series sweep over STAC Saturday afternoon. At No. 1 singles against the Spartans’ Don Lominoque, Rikkonen would start the comeback rally with a two-set victory to the score of 6-3, 6-4 as Queens went on to win five singles matches and earn a 5-2 match victory. 

Antonio Simo Durall, District of Columbia
Senior | Barcelona, Spain

Durall went 4-0 in a 2-0 week for the Firebirds. In the win over Daemen, he teamed up with Juan Estevez Hernandez to defeat their opponents 6-2 at the No. 3 doubles spot. He went on to defeat his opponent 7-5, 6-4 at No. 3 singles. In the win against West Chester, he and Hernandez went 6-2 at No. 3 doubles and he went on to win 6-1, 6-0 at No. 3 singles.
