Mercyhurst Women's Bowling Concludes Season at NCAA National Tournament

PITTSBURGH, Pa. - Mercyhurst women's bowling made their way to the AMF Mt. Lebanon Lanes Friday for the first two rounds of the NCAA National Tournament. The Lakers ended up seeing Jacksonville State in the opening round, falling 2-0 before taking on Maryland Eastern Shore in the elimination match with the Shore Hawks getting the better of the contest, 2-0.

The Lakers started off with a contest with the Gamecocks in team play with Jax State ending up on top, 1,005-893. From there, the two teams began baker play with Jacksonville State able to take each of the first games. After falling in the first two contests in the five-game set, the Lakers ended up putting together a tough fight in the third. They were not quite able to do enough to overcome the Gamecocks with Mercyhurst falling 179-177. From there, Jax Sate remained in control as they ended up winning all five games and sending Mercyhurst to the elimination matchup.

In their second contest of the day for the Lakers was with Maryland Eastern Shore with the two teams fighting for their lives. Much like their first matchup of the day, Mercyhurst ended up dropping their contest in team play, 903-887, needing to put together a solid effort in the baker games. The Lakers did manage to have a better outing this time around with a total score of 948, but was not quite enough to come away with the win. The team did have a dominant effort in the second game with a 234-153 win for their best score of the day, but that was the only win they could muster as they saw their time in the tournament come to an end.
