BROOKLYN The East Coast Conference, in conjunction with the High School of Sports Management (HSSM), held its ninth annual ECC College Expeditionary Day event. ECC Day 2024 was divided into two separate days. Day 1 was held remotely in the LEC Library focusing on the College of Staten Island on Wednesday, March 13. ECC Commissioner Bob Dranoff served as a panelist alongside the CSI trio of Assistant Athletic Director/Esports Coordinator/Finance and Business Manager Alberto Sanchez, Assistant Director for Recruitment Holly Block, and Computer Science Professor Dr. Shuqun Zhang.

Day 2 was an in-person session in the LEC Library on Wednesday, April 3. Mercy, Molloy, Queens, Staten Island, and St. Thomas Aquinas participated for the ECC. Dranoff provided context for the extensive partnership with HSSM, originating in 2015, and spoke to the attendees about the purposes of ECC College Expeditionary Day.

“We are big fans of HSSM - the students and the leaders who are so committed to the work they do,” said Dranoff. “We are very proud of this unique partnership that has lasted all these years. This day is a great opportunity for us to share some knowledge and for these prospective college students to learn what our colleges offer. I know our schools join me in looking forward to this day and to meeting with these impressive young men and women each year.”

Per their mission statement, HSSM is unique in its interdisciplinary approach that connects academics with real-life work in sports. In addition to a full complement of regular prescribed courses that include advanced placement, students take introductory classes in sports media, marketing, journalism, broadcasting, event planning, technology, business and operations. The learning environment is not limited to a four-wall structure. Rather, it extends to the community, to sport industry facilities, as well as to the classroom.
