Player of the Week
Cameron Henricy, Queens
Junior | Las Palmas, Spain
Henricy went 4-0 in singles play, earning two victories over two Division I and II opponents as Queens completed a 3-1 road stand. Against Big East member St. John’s, Henricy defeated Ignacio Vinas in straight sets to the score of 6-3, 6-2 at No. 3 singles on Monday afternoon before earning a three-set comeback victory over A-10 member Fordham’s Giorgio Soemarnio with a 3-6, 6-1, 7-5 win at No. 2 singles on Wednesday afternoon.
Against Division II opponents to end the week, Henricy picked up a 7-5 victory over Daemen’s Alex Lumanog at No. 3 before a forfeit gave the junior his third singles victory of the week on Saturday evening. Henricy would complete his perfect week in singles action with another three-set comeback over Edinboro’s Stanislas Noel to the score of 3-6, 7-6 (7-4), 6-3 on Sunday afternoon.
Rookie of the Week
Henry Ronnberg, St. Thomas Aquinas
Freshman | Ahus, Sweden
Ronnberg went 6-0 in singles and doubles in a 3-0 week for the Spartans. In doubles, Ronnberg teamed up with Seth Newman at the No. 3 position to take down Adelphi's Viktor Hockl and Thiago Negrao, 6-2, then UDC's Juan Estevez Hernandez and Antonio Simo Durall, 6-1, and finally Dominican's Jorge Catala and Ander Cantero Sadaba, 6-3.
In singles action, the STAC freshman downed the Panthers’ Hugo Munoz Reinoso 1-6, 6-4, 6-1 at No. 4, the Firebirds’ Mauricio Corty (UDC) 6-4, 6-2 at No. 5 and the Chargers’ Qalib Bahadurali Ladhani 6-2, 6-1 at No. 3.
ECC Weekly Honor Roll
Noah Gauthier, Queens
Freshman | La Colle-sur-Loup, France
Gauthier went 3-1 in singles, including a victory over a Division I opponent. Against A-10 member Fordham’s Bingru Chen, the rookie earned a 6-4, 6-1 victory at No. 6 singles on Wednesday afternoon. Gauthier was promoted to No. 4 singles on Saturday evening against Daemen’s Rohan Chitanand, and the rookie earned a 6-0, 6 -1 two-set victory in ECC play before defeating Edinboro’s Gustavo Martins to the score of 6-2, 1-6, 7-5 to cap off his week at No. 6 singles on Sunday afternoon.
Oskar Karos, District of Columbia
Junior | Warsaw, Poland
Karos went 2-1 in both singles (No. 4) and doubles (No. 2) on the week. In the 4-3 loss to Chestnut Hill, he teamed up with Mauricio Corty to win 6-4 at No. 2 doubles before going on to defeat Menno Raeymaekers 6-1, 6-2 at No. 4 singles. In the Firebirds’ 6-1 victory over Kutztown, Karos and Corty defeated their opponents 6-1, and then he went on to defeat Emmitt Robinson (KU) 1-6, 6-2, 6-1.
Louka Queguiner, District of Columbia
Sophomore | La Ciotat, France
Queguiner went 2-1 on the week at No. 2 singles. In the Firebirds’ 5-2 conference loss to STAC, he defeated Ludovico Truffelli 7-6(4), 6-7(2), 1-0(7), and in the 6-1 win over Kutztown, he defeated Dang Nguyen 6-1, 6-2.
Omar El Shehawey, Queens
Senior | Cairo, Egypt
El Shehawey went 3-0 on the week. The senior began the week earning a 6-2, 6-1 victory over Division I Fordham’s Stefan Stojanovic on Wednesday evening at No. 5 singles. Promoted to No. 3 singles play against Daemen’s Lucas Garcia in ECC play on Saturday evening, El Shehawey earned a 6-2, 6-3 victory before capping off his week with a 6-4, 7-6 (7-0) victory over Edinboro’s Thomas Buchard on Sunday afternoon.
