Rookie of the Week

Noah Gauthier, Queens
Freshman | La Colle-sur-Loup, France
Gauthier went 2-0 in No. 5 and No. 6 singles in ECC play. Gauthier began the week earning a 6-1, 7-6 (7-5) victory over STAC’s Lennart Lehmann at No. 6 singles before completing a 2-0 afternoon against UDC on Friday afternoon. The rookie earned a grueling victory at No. 3 doubles with partner Cameron Henricy as the duo earned a 7-6 (16-14) win before earning a three-set comeback victory at No. 5 singles over UDC’s Juan Hernandez to the score of 3-6, 6-2, 6-4.

ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Mauricio Corty Sosa, District of Columbia
Senior | Merida, Venezuela
Sosa went a perfect 3-0 in a 2-0 week for UDC. In the 4-3 win over Queens, he teamed up with Oskar Karos to clinch the winning doubles match point with a 7-5 win at No. 2. Sosa went on to clinch the win for the Firebirds with a 6-3, 7-5 win at No. 6 singles. In the Firebirds’ 7-0 win against Virginia State, he defeated his opponent, 6-0, 6-0 at No. 5 singles. 

Francisco Gonzalez, Queens
Senior | La Plata, Argentina
Gonzalez went undefeated in singles play with a record of 3-0 with results coming at No. 4 to No. 6 court. The Queens senior began the week earning a victory over STAC’s Henry Ronnberg in a three-set battle to the score of 7-5, 0-6, 6-4 at No. 5 singles on Monday afternoon. On Friday afternoon, the senior earned a victory at No. 4 singles over UDC’s Oskar Karos to the score of 6-2, 6-2 before completing his week with a 6-3, 6-2 victory over Jefferson’s Johary Rabetrano to the score of 6-3, 6-2 in non-conference action on Saturday. 

Cameron Henricy, Queens
Junior | Las Palmas, Spain
Henricy went 2-0 in No. 2 singles on the week. Henricy began the week earning a two-set victory over STAC’s Ludovico Truffelli to the score of 6-1, 6-4 before completing his week with a three-set comeback victory over Jefferson’s Jules Thibault to the score of 4-6, 6-2, 6-3 on Saturday afternoon. 

Louis Mangeon, District of Columbia
Graduate Student | Belbeuf, France
Mangeon went 3-1 in a 2-0 week for UDC. In the Firebirds’ 4-3 win over Queens, he teamed up with Luka Queguiner to defeat their opponents 6-3 at No. 1 doubles. He went a perfect 2-0 in a 7-0 win over Virginia State, not allowing his opponents a single point at both No. 1 singles and doubles.

Roni Rikkonen, Queens
Senior | Tampere, Finland
Rikkonen went 2-0 at No. 1 singles in conference play, defeating STAC’s Don Lominoque in straight sets to the score of 6-4, 6-3 on Monday afternoon before earning his second straight victory against UDC’s Louis Mangeon to the score of 7-6 (7-5), 6-2 on Friday afternoon.
