ECC Baseball Report - Week Seven

Player of the Week

Jorsixt Jimenez, Queens
Sophomore | Outfielder | Flushing, N.Y.

Playing all seven games for the Knights’ Jimenez led the way with a batting average of .452, SLG percentage of .774, and OB percentage of .528 as he recorded 14 hits, seven doubles, one home run, 11 RBI, seven runs scored, and four walks en route to 24 total bases. Jimenez recorded a hit in all seven games, with five multi-hit games totaling three-hit games and two three-hit performances. 

In six ECC games, Jimenez hit .500, slugged .846, and posted an OB percentage of .581 with 13 hits, 11 RBI, six doubles, one home run, four walks, and six runs scored. The sophomore paced the offense in the high-scoring series against Mercy, notching three multi-hit games with nine hits, four doubles, seven RBI, four runs scored, and four walks as Queen improved to 6-2 in ECC play. 


Pitcher of the Week

Michael Vilardi, Queens
Freshman | Outfielder/Pitcher | Massapequa, N.Y.

Vilardi earned two ECC starts on the mound and would deliver for the Knights, earning a pair of wins in 12.2 innings with 16 hits allowed, just six earned runs, two walks, and eight strikeouts. Against Lincoln on Monday, the Massapequa native pitched 5.1 innings allowing eight hits, two earned runs with a walk, and a career-high five strikeouts as Queens clinched the series with a 6-3 victory. On Saturday afternoon and pitching on four days rest, Vilardi pitched his first complete-game victory as he went a career-best 7.0 innings allowing eight hits, four earned runs, one walk, and three strikeouts to keep the hot bats of the Mavericks to four runs to clinch the second ECC series of the year for Queens in the 10-4 game four victory. Vilardi became the first freshman since the 2017 season to pitch a complete game victory and earned his second ECC victory of the year and team-high fourth victory on the mound. 


Rookie of the Week

ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Chris Auclair, D’Youville
Junior | Pitcher | Baldwinsville, N.Y.

On Saturday against West Chester, Auclair threw 5.2 innings allowing one earned run on eight hits and striking out four.

Matt Filip, Queens
Junior | First Baseman | Maspeth, N.Y.

In six ECC games, Filip would scorch the bat with a batting average of .391, SLG % of .957, and OB% of .500 as he recorded nine hits, one double, four home runs, 10 RBI, seven runs scored, one stolen base and five walks. The junior recorded three multi-hit and multi-RBI games. In the doubleheader against Lincoln on Monday, Filip went 3-5 AB, three RBI, one home run and three walks. While in the high-scoring four-game series against Mercy the Maspeth native notched six hits, seven RBI, one double, three home runs, six runs scored, three walks, and one stolen base. 

Nolan Giblin, Mercy 
Graduate Student | Third Baseman | Syracuse, N.Y.

Giblin hit .471 (8-for-17) with a team-high-tying eight runs to go along with a home run, four RBI and two doubles in four games. The graduate student went 4-for-10 with four runs and an RBI in the split against Queens on Friday. The third baseman ended the week going 4-for-7 with four runs, a home run and three RBI against Queens on Saturday.

Ryan Hynes, Molloy
Senior | Pitcher | Stony Brook, N.Y.

Hynes was masterful in Molloy's 12-2 win over St. Thomas Aquinas on Saturday. The left-hander carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning en route to the victory. Hynes finished the contest tossing six innings allowing one run on one hit and struck out eight to improve to 4-1 on the campaign.

Thomas Marten, Staten Island
Senior | First Baseman | Lynbrook, N.Y.

Marten helped lead the Dolphins to four wins against Lincoln University this weekend hitting .429 with a .1.485 OPS.  Of his six hits, three went for extra bases, and he finished the week with eight runs scored and ten RBI.  During Saturday's doubleheader, the senior homered in consecutive games bringing his slugging percentage for the week to .929.

Joey Patane, Queens
Sophomore | Left Fielder | Commack, N.Y.

In the high-scoring four-game series against Mercy, Patane scorched the ball as he recorded a batting average of .583, SLG % of 1.250, and OB % of .737 notching seven hits, two doubles, two home runs, six RBI, five runs scored, and seven walks. The sophomore recorded his first career four-hit game with a 4-5 AB with a double, and one run scored in game one before going to record three straight multi-RBI games with a double, two home runs, and four runs scored as Queens clinched their second straight ECC series of the year.

Gabe Sanders, Mercy
Junior | Outfielder | Dunedin, Fla.

Sanders hit .500 (9-for-18) with a team-high three home runs, eight RBI and eight runs scored in four games this week. The junior went 5-for-9 with six RBI, two home runs and five runs scored in the split with Queens on Friday. The outfielder ended the week going 4-for-9 with a home run, two RBI and three runs scored in the doubleheader at Queens on Saturday. 

Matt Yip, Molloy
Senior | Catcher | Williston Park, N.Y.

Yip provided pop in the cleanup spot of the order in Molloy's doubleheader sweep against St. Thomas Aquinas. The senior collected a pair of multi-hit games including blasting a home run in each of the Lions's victories. On the week, Yip hit .571 (4-for-7), scored five times, drove in five runs, and blasted two home runs while slugging 1.429 and getting on base at a .667 clip.
