ROCHESTER, N.Y. – Third-seeded Mercyhurst swept top-seeded Bryant, 2-0, in the final of the East Coast Conference Women's Bowling Championship to defend their league title at AMF Dewey Garden Lanes on Sunday afternoon. With the win, the Lakers earn the conference's bid into the NCAA Championship.
After Bryant began the morning by defeating No. 8 D’Youville to advance to the final, the Bulldogs and Lakers squared off in a best-of-three megamatch format to determine the ECC Champion. First up was a team traditional format with all five bowlers rolling a full 10 frames. Mercyhurst took a 1-0 lead with a 963-894 victory.
Four of Mercyhurst's five bowlers finished with a score of at least 180, while ECC Rookie of the Year Delaney Rossette led the way with a 236 and Nicole Lemponen added 203. All-ECC First Team selection Laura Clark led the way for Bryant with a 202.
Next up was Baker total pinfall. All five of Mercyhurst's bowlers recorded at least 187, with ECC Bowler of the Year Samantha Strebel leading the way with a 201. Olivia Hillman (229) and Hayden Smith (202) led Bryant, but the Lakers finished with a 966-937 victory to clinch the ECC title.
The Lakers now await the NCAA Selection Show on Wednesday, March 27 to find out their opponent and competition site in the upcoming NCAA Championship.
