In the Knights’ lone match of the week, Rikkonen went 2-0 on the day earning a victory at No. 1 singles and No. 2 doubles against District of Columbia as Queens opened ECC play on Friday afternoon with a sweep. Rikkonen opened the day earning a 6-2 victory at No. 2 doubles with partner Omar El Shehawey before completing an undefeated day at No. 1 singles with a comeback three-set victory over Louis Mangeon. After dropping a tough first set to the score of 6-7 (5-7), the Finland native would earn a 6-3, 11-9 comeback victory to earn his first 2-0 ECC week of the year.
Rookie of the Week
Seth Newman, St. Thomas Aquinas
Freshman | Cambridge, England
Newman went 6-2 in his singles and doubles matches on the team's spring break Florida trip. The freshman recorded a 3-1 record in doubles matches (with teammate Henry Ronnberg) with wins in the No. 3 position against Bentley, Lubbock Christian, and Texas-Tyler. He also posted a 3-1 mark in singles action with triumphs against Bentley, Lewis, and Texas Tyler in both the No. 3 and 4 spots.
ECC Weekly Honor Roll
Tim Andersson, Queens
Freshman | Linkoping, Sweden
Andersson was promoted to No. 2 singles for the first time this year and went 1-0 at No. 2 singles with a 6-1, 6-3 victory over UDC’s Louka Queguiner. The rookie would extend his singles win streak to three matches.
David Cerne, Queens
Freshman | Ljubljana, Slovenia
In the Knights’ lone match of the week freshman David Cerne went 2-0 on the day earning a victory at No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles against District of Columbia as Queens opened ECC play Friday afternoon with a sweep. Cerne began the day with a 6-1 victory at No. 3 doubles with partner Francisco Gonzalez before earning his first 2-0 week with a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Mauricio Corty at No. 6 singles to complete the afternoon.
Lucas Garcia, Daemen
Freshman | Bogota, Colombia
Garcia went 2-1 at No. 4 singles and 1-0 at No. 2 singles during a 3-1 week. His 6-2, 1-6, 6-4 win at No. 4 singles gave Daemen a 3-2 lead in its 4-3 win over Millennia Atlantic University during their one-week stay in Florida.
Louis Mangeon, District of Columbia
Graduate Student | Belbeuf, France
Mangeon went 3-0 in doubles play at No. 1 and 1-2 in singles play. He went 2-0 in the 6-1 win over Post and 1-1 against Queens, winning 6-2 at doubles No. 1 and being edged out by ECC Preseason Player of the Year Roni Rikkonen 6-7(5), 6-3, 1-0(9). He also went 1-1 against Adelphi.
Louka Queguiner, District of Columbia
Sophomore | La Ciotat, France
Queguiner teamed up with Mangeon to go 3-0 in doubles play at the No.1 position. In the 6-1 win against Post, they defeated their opponents 6-1. In the loss to Queens, they defeated their opponents 6-2, and in the loss to Adelphi, they defeated their opponents 6-4. Queguiner went 1-2 in singles play at No. 2. In the match against Post, he defeated his opponent 7-6(3), 6-3. He fell 6-1, 6-3 to his opponent against Queens and fell 6-3, 4-6, 6-4 against Adelphi.
