James Patterson, St. Thomas Aquinas
Sophomore | Guard/Forward | Richmond, Va.
Patterson averaged 28.5 points per game with 11.0 rebounds and 2.5 steals per game over two contests last week for STAC, now on an eight-game winning streak. The sophomore guard/forward tallied 27 points, grabbed 12 rebounds, dished out two assists, and forced a steal in 30 minutes in a 90-81 win over Bridgeport before recording 30 points, 10 rebounds, three assists and two steals in 34 minutes in a 101-84 win over Roberts Wesleyan. Patterson also shot 44.4 percent (20-of-45) from the field and 72.2 percent (13-of-18) from the foul line in a 2-0 week for the Spartans, who sit atop the conference standings with a 10-1 ECC record. The now eight-time ECC Player of the Week leads the entire NCAA East Region and ranks third nationally in scoring with 24.3 points per game.
Defensive Player of the Week
Isaiah Elmore, Roberts Wesleyan
Junior | Forward | Tampa, Fla.
Elmore averaged a double-double last week with 11.0 points per game and 10.5 rebounds per game to go with 3.0 blocks per game in a 1-1 week for Roberts Wesleyan. In RWU’s 84-68 win over Mercy, Elmore pulled down 13 rebounds (10 defensive) and posted four blocked shots to go with seven points. In the 101-84 loss to STAC, Elmore put up 15 points, eight rebounds (five defensive), five assists, and two blocks. The RWU junior ranks second in the conference, third in the NCAA East Region, and 11th nationally in blocks per game, with 2.05 rejections per contest.
Rookie of the Week
Aaron Goldstein, Staten Island
Freshman | Guard | Staten Island, N.Y.
Goldstein averaged 15.5 points, 1.5 rebounds, and 2.0 assists per game this week, highlighted by a career-high 28 points in a 79-67 win over Daemen on Friday; the CSI freshman shot 10-of-17 from the field and 6-9 from beyond the arc while also collecting three steals at the defensive end of the floor.
ECC Weekly Honor Roll
Joey Atkins, Daemen
Graduate Student | Forward | Watervliet, N.Y.
Atkins shot 50-percent (12-of-24) from the field and averaged 15.0 points and 9.5 rebounds in a 1-1 week. Atkins dropped 10 points and nine rebounds in the 79-67 loss to Staten Island before leading the Wildcats with 20 points, 10 rebounds, one steal, and one block in a 79-71 win over UDC.
Shamar Chester, Queens
Junior | Guard | Queens, N.Y.
For the third time this year, Chester recorded a new career-high in points as the Queens native touched the 31-point plateau for the first time in his career. In Wednesday evening’s loss to Molloy, Chester recorded 31 points on 11-of-25 shooting from the field (44.0 percent) with six assists and a career-high five steals on the night.
Kevin Constant, Roberts Wesleyan
Junior | Guard | Lawrence, Mass.
Constant had a double-double of 26 points and 12 rebounds in RWU’s 84-68 win over Mercy and followed up with 16 points in the loss to STAC.
Nassir Hammonds, D’Youville
Redshirt Freshman | Guard | Norfolk, Va.
Hammonds was active on the boards this past weekend, averaging 10.5 rebounds per game including a career-high 19 rebounds against the District of Columbia. Hammond also averaged seven points per game.
Hartnel Haye, District of Columbia
Senior | Forward | Camden, N.J.
Haye averaged a double-double in a 1-1 week, posting 14.5 points per game (59.0 FG%), 10.0 rebounds per game, 3.0 assists per game, and 2.0 steals per game. In the Firebirds’ 77-72 win over D'Youville, Haye recorded 14 points, eight rebounds, four assists, and three steals. In UDC’s 79-71 loss to Daemen, Haye shot 63.6 percent from the field, scoring 15 points while pulling 12 boards.
Rob Matos, Molloy
Freshman | Guard | Fredericksburg, Va.
Matos led the Lions with 27 points in a 96-85 victory over Queens this week. The freshman also dished out three assists.
Rich Smith, St. Thomas Aquinas
Sophomore | Guard | Bronx, N.Y.
Smith averaged 7.0 points, 6.5 rebounds and 4.5 assists per game over two contests last week for STAC. The sophomore guard dished out four assists, grabbed three rebounds, forced two steals, and blocked one shot in 13 minutes in STAC’s 90-81 non-conference win over Bridgeport before recording 13 points, 10 rebounds (five defensive), and five assists in 32 minutes in a 101-84 win over Roberts Wesleyan.
