ECC Men's Tennis Report - Week Three

Co-Player of the Week

Omar El Shehawey, Queens
Senior | Cairo, Egypt

El Shehawey completed a 4-0 week as he went undefeated in singles and double play to open the year. Playing at #1 doubles, Shehawey began the week earning a 6-2 victory over Hofstra’s #1 pair and finished the week with a 8-3 victory over NYU’s #1 pair. In singles action #4 court, he would earn a comeback victory over Hofstra’ Maxim Michaels to the score of 4-6, 7-5, 10-8 and ended the week with a 6-1, 7-5 victory over Violets’ Rumaish Khastgir. 


Co-Player of the Week

Don Vinz Lominoque, St. Thomas Aquinas
Sophomore | Cebu City, Philippines

Lominoque won both his doubles and singles matches against UDC as the Spartans shut out the Firebirds, 7-0. First, Lominoque (and teammate Tobias Fuerschuss) took down Louis Mangeon and Louka Queguiner at #1 doubles, 6-4, before defeating the reigning ECC Player of the Year, Louis Mangeon, at #1 singles 6-4, 6-3.


Rookie of the Week

Henry Ronnberg, St. Thomas Aquinas
Freshman | Ahus, Sweden

Ronnberg won both his doubles and singles matches in conference play against UDC as the Spartans shut out the Firebirds, 7-0. First, Ronnberg (and teammate Seth Newman) took down Mauricio Corty and Oskar Karos at #2 doubles, 6-2, before defeating Oskar Karos at #5 singles 6-0, 6-2.


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Tim Andersson, Queens
Freshman | Linkoping, Sweden

Andersson earned a thrilling three-set victory over NYU’s Louis Frowein at #3 singles to the score of 7-6 (7-3), 5-7, 7-6 (7-5) as the Queens freshman clinched a comeback win to help the Knights to their first victory of the year. 

Louka Queguiner, District of Columbia
Sophomore | La Ciotat, France

Queguiner went 1-1 in both singles and doubles play on the week. In the Firebirds’ win over Coppin State, the UDC sophomore went 2-2 at #1 doubles and #3 singles, not allowing his opponent a single point in singles play with a 6-0, 6-0 victory. He also teamed up with Louis Mangeon to defeat their opponents 7-6(5) in doubles. 

Roni Rikkonen, Queens
Senior |  Tampere, Finland

Rikkonen went 3-1 on the week, going 1-1 in singles and 2-0 in doubles play. Rikkonen began the week with a 2-0 match against Hofstra in the season opener, earning a 6-2 victory over Hofstra's #1 pair and a three-set victory at #1 singles over Ostap Kovalenko with a 6-2, 6-7 (3-7), 10-7 win. The Queens senior would end the week with a 1-1 day against NYU, taking home an 8-3 victory over NYU's #1 pair before falling in singles at #1 court.
