ECC Baseball Report - Week Three

Player of the Week

Billy Morris, D’Youville
Sophomore | Infielder/Pitcher | Lancaster, N.Y.

Morris helped the Saints to a 2-1 record on the week, going 6-for-11 (.545) at the plate, collecting three doubles and driving in three runs. Morris also came into score three times. The D’Youville sophomore also saw time on the mound, striking out seven batters over seven innings of work while scattering five hits.

Pitcher of the Week

Matthew Fried, Molloy
Graduate Student | Pitcher | East Meadow, N.Y.

Fried took the hill in game two of Molloy's doubleheader sweep over Adelphi. The Molloy graduate student tossed a complete game shutout, allowing just one hit while striking out six to blank the Panthers’ offense and improve to 2-0 on the campaign.

Co-Rookie of the Week

Nicholas Rodriguez, Staten Island
Freshman | Shortstop | Ozone Park, N.Y.

Rodriguez went 3-for-9 with five walks in a 3-1 week for the Dolphins, recording four RBI and reaching base a total of eight times for a .533 OBP. The last two wins during that four-game stretch came on Sunday against Holy Family when Rodriguez drove in one run in each game; this included a walk-off hit in the seventh inning of game two as the Dolphins swept a doubleheader from the Tigers.

Co-Rookie of the Week

Andrew Schoelles, St. Thomas Aquinas
Freshman | Pitcher | Bayside, N.Y.

Schoelles was sensational on the mound for the Spartans in a 10-0 victory over Slippery Rock last weekend in North Carolina. The freshman right-hander threw a complete game shutout while only allowing four hits and two walks. He also struck out five batters.

ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Chris Auclair, D’Youville
Junior | Pitcher | Baldwinsville, N.Y.

In the team's 5-2 win over Gannon University, Auclair pitched five innings, fanning seven hits and allowing one earned run while striking out eight batters.

Peyton Jemison, Mercy
Freshman | First Base | Monroe, N.Y.

Jemison hit .500 (4-for-8) with one RBI, one run scored, one double, and one triple in Mercy's sweep of Southern Connecticut State (6-5 and 4-3) on Sunday. The Mercy freshman drove in the go-ahead run in Mercy's 6-5 game-one win and slugged at a clip of .875 for the week.

JJ DeVito, Molloy
Junior | Outfield | Wantagh, N.Y.

DeVito was a major contributor atop the lineups for the Lions over the weekend against Adelphi. The junior reached base in all three contests this weekend and collected a career-high three stolen bases Sunday against the Panthers. To cap the week, DeVito drew five walks, stole five bases, scored five runs, hit one home run, and drove in two.

Jordan Sanabria, Queens
Senior | Pitcher | Woodside, N.Y.

Sanabria pitched 6.1 innings allowing three hits, three earned runs, and three walks, and struck out a career-high 13 batters in 109 pitches in the tough loss to regionally-ranked Franklin Pierce on Friday. Facing 27 Ravens batters, Sanabria would keep the Knights in the game as he earned a strikeout throughout the first six innings including striking out the side in the second and sixth innings of play.

Joseph Scamardella, St. Thomas Aquinas
Redshirt Junior | Infielder | Staten Island, N.Y.

Scamardella hit .313 (5-for-16) over four games with a double and a homerun, as the Spartans went 2-2 on their North Carolina road trip last weekend. The redshirt junior infielder hit safely in all four games, driving in five total runs and scoring twice.

Riley Williams, Mercy
Sophomore | Pitcher |  Nantucket, Mass.

Williams tossed 3.2 scoreless innings of relief with one hit allowed and one strikeout to earn the win in Mercy's 6-5 game-one win over Southern Connecticut State on Sunday.
