ECC Women's Basketball Report - Week 14

Player of the Week

Alahna Paige, Daemen 
Senior | Guard | Rochester, N.Y.

Paige became the 28th player in Daemen women's basketball history to score 1,000 career points after totaling 56 points (28 ppg) in Daemen's 1-1 week. The senior guard scored a career-high 36 points in Daemen's key 68-64 ECC win over STAC on Friday, shooting 11-of-26 from the field, 7-of-16 from downtown and 11-of-11 from the charity stripe, and a game-high 20 points in the 50-44 loss to Mercy on Sunday after going 7-of-27 from the field. Paige totaled nine rebounds, three assists, and three steals on the weekend. 


Defensive Player of the Week

Erin Leary, St. Thomas Aquinas 
Junior | Forward | Carle Place, N.Y.

Leary averaged 16.5 points, 10.0 rebounds, 3.0 assists, 3.0 blocks, and 2.0 steals per game over two contests last week for STAC. The junior forward picked up 14 points, grabbed nine rebounds, dished out three assists, forced two steals and blocked two shots in 36 minutes in a 68-64 setback at Daemen before recording 19 points (including her 1,000th career point), 11 rebounds, three assists, two steals and four blocks in 40 minutes in a 64-49 win at D'Youville. 


Rookie of the Week

Nkiru Awaka, Queens 
Freshman | Forward | Hyde Park, N.Y.

In the Knights’ lone game of the week on Friday night, rookie Nkiru Awaka recorded 27 points (10-of-14 FG) on a scorching 71.4-percent shooting with nine rebounds, four steals, and two assists in the 87-74 victory over Roberts Wesleyan. Awaka would record a career-best seven made free throws and four steals to help Queens complete the series sweep over Roberts Wesleyan. 


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Jenalyse Alarcon, Staten Island 
Junior | Forward | Troy, N.Y.

Alarcon averaged 20.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 2.5 blocks per game across two contests for the Dolphins this week. The junior scored 19 points, grabbed seven rebounds, blocked two shots, and recorded two steals against Dominican on Tuesday. She followed up that effort with a double-double on Saturday at UDC scoring 22 points, grabbing another 11 rebounds, and blocking three more shots. The double-double was her fifth of the season as she continues to rank among the leading rebounders in the conference.

Sarah Ericson, St. Thomas Aquinas 
Junior | Guard | Norwich, Conn.

Ericson averaged 18.5 points per game, 15.0 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.0 steals per game over two contests last week for STAC. The junior guard tallied 19 points, grabbed 19 rebounds, dished out four assists and forced a steal in 38 minutes in a 68-64 setback at Daemen, before recording 18 points, 11 rebounds, four assists, three steals and a blocked shot in 37 minutes in a 64-49 win at D'Youville. Ericson also shot 52.0 percent (13-of-25) from the field and 46.1 percent (6-for-13) from three in a 1-1 week for the Spartans.

Georgia Haverlock, Roberts Wesleyan 
Graduate Student | Guard | Ithaca, N.Y.

Haverlock had a big day in a win over Molloy on Sunday. The graduate student scored 22 points to go along with 12 rebounds, four assists and one steal. Haverlock is 15 points away from her 1,000th career point.  

Jaclyn Stanavich, Mercy 
Junior | Forward | Amsterdam, N.Y.

Stanavich averaged 14.0 points, 7.0 rebounds, 1.5 blocks and 1.0 assists per game as Mercy went 2-0 on the week. The junior opened the week with eight points, 10 rebounds and two assists in the Mavericks first-ever win at D'Youville on Friday. The forward ended the week with a game-high-tying 20 points to go along with four rebounds, three blocks and one steal in Mercy's first win at first-place Daemen since 2016. Stanavich came up with a key block on a game-tying shot attempt in the final seconds that helped prevent the Wildcats from tying the game. 

Katie Wall, Mercy 
Graduate Student | Guard | Wappingers Falls, N.Y.

Wall averaged a team-high 16.0 points, 3.0 steals and 2.5 assists per game with 6.0 rebounds per game as Mercy went 2-0 on the week. The graduate student opened the week with a game-high 29 points on 9-of-19 shooting with four rebounds, four steals and three assists in Mercy's first-ever win at D'Youville on Friday. The guard ended the week with three points, eight rebounds, two steals and two assists in Mercy's first win at first-place Daemen since 2016.
