ECC Indoor Track and Field Report - Week One

Men's Track Athlete of the Week

Owen White, Roberts Wesleyan
Graduate Student | Distance | Lockport, NY

White picked up where he left off after his outstanding cross country season with a school-record performance in the 5k, clocking an NCAA provisional time of 14:20.68 for sixth in a field of 26 at the GVSU Holiday Open on Friday. That time leads both the ECC and NCAA East Region and ranks 24th across NCAA Division II. 


Men's Field Athlete of the Week

Devin Jones, Felician
Senior | Jumps | Neptune, NJ

ECC Preseason Co-Athlete of the Year Jones opened the 2024-25 season with a win in the long jump field of 19 at the FDU Knights Midweek Clash on Wednesday, going for 7.42m, a Felician school record; that NCAA provisional mark leads both the ECC and NCAA East Region and ranks seventh across NCAA Division II. Just four days later, Jones again won the long jump in a field of 12 at the UMass Boston Beacon Season Opener, dropping a 7.23m. 


Women's Track Athlete of the Week

Samantha Morrison, District of Columbia
Junior | Kingston, Jamaica

Morrison ran two ECC-leading times at the TCNJ Indoor Opener, placing second in the 1000m (3:09.81) and anchoring the 4x400m relay that won in 4:02.03; that relay also leads the NCAA East Region with a .88 edge over Holy Family and near eight-second advantage over New Haven over opening weekend. 


Women's Field Athlete of the Week

Brynn King, Roberts Wesleyan
Graduate Student | Pole Vault | The Woodlands, TX

King opened the 2024-25 indoor season in impressive fashion with a statement win in the pole vault at the Haynes-Lancaster Open meet at the University of Akron. She passed on heights until the 14' 3 1/4” mark, cleared the bar on her second attempt, and then cleared the 14' 9" height to dominate the field of 11. The first-place finish and NCAA provisional-surpassing height is the No. 1 mark in NCAA Division II this season and is 7.75 inches above the top NCAA Division I mark of the season. 


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Men's
Robbie Babson, Georgian Court
Senior | Throws | Toms River, NJ

Babson won the shot put (15.92m) at the season-opening Fastrack Season Opener at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, NY on Friday to top the conference and rank third in the NCAA East Region. 

Jayden Bennermon, St. Thomas Aquinas
Senior | Jumps | Poughkeepsie, NY

Bennermon won the high jump (1.87m) in a field of 11 and triple jump (13.67m) in a field of 11 at the TCNJ Indoor Opener. The STAC senior also finished fourth in a field of 22 in the long jump with a mark of 6.26m. His triple jump mark ranks fifth in the ECC and eighth in the NCAA East Region. 

Jurrel Hall, Molloy
Sophomore | Jumps | West Hempstead, NY

Hall started his sophomore campaign strong at the Youree Spence Garcia Meet, winning the long jump against a 25-member field of mainly Division I competitors; his leap of 6.95m was also good for a new Molloy program record and ranks third in the ECC and NCAA East Region. Hall also topped Division II competitors in the triple jump, recording a leap of 13.93 meters, good for second in the field of 10; that mark ranks fourth in the ECC and sixth in the NCAA East Region. 

Adam Kamagate, Daemen
Junior | Sprints | Hilton, NY

Kamagate won the 60m hurdles in a field of six in a Daemen school-record time of 8.62 at the Houghton December Classic. The performance topped the ECC and ranks fourth in the NCAA East Region. 

Thomas McConnelee, Roberts Wesleyan
Freshman | Throws | Carlisle, NY

McConnelee made an immediate impact at Roberts Wesleyan with a school record and pair of wins in his first collegiate meet. The RWU rookie won both the weight throw and the shot put at the season-opening Houghton December Classic. His distance in the weight throw of 16.48m (54' 1") was a Roberts Wesleyan school record, and he went on to win the shot put with a heave of 15.30 meters (50' 2 ½”); that mark stands as just the second 50+ foot throw in school history. His weight throw mark ranks second in the ECC and third in the NCAA East Region while his shot put mark ranks second in the ECC and fourth in the NCAA East Region. 

Kadeem Patterson, Queens
Sophomore | Sprints | Bronx, NY

Competing in the Fastrack Season Opener at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, NY on Friday, Patterson flew through the 200m in 22.56, which topped 25+ ECC 200m times last week and currently ranks third in the NCAA East Region.

Nishorn Pierre, Holy Family
Senior | Jumps | Grenada

Pierre won two silvers with two NCAA provisionals at the season-opening Fastrack Season Opener at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, NY on Friday. His clearance of 2.04m in the high jump currently leads the ECC and NCAA East Region and is tied for 12th in Division II, while his mark of 15.00m in the triple jump is second in the ECC, third in the NCAA East Region, and fifth in NCAA Division II. 

Alexson Songor, Holy Family
Freshman | Upper Darby, PA

Songor posted the fastest 800m time (1:59.60) in the ECC over the weekend to place fifth out of 32 at the season-opening Fastrack Season Opener at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, NY on Friday; that time ranks third in the NCAA East Region. He was also a member of the 4x400m relay that combined for the league’s fastest time in 3:27.46.  

Odane Smith, Holy Family
Sophomore | Jumps | Saint Catherine, Jamaica

Smith won the triple jump at the season-opening Fastrack Season Opener at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, NY on Friday, topping the field of 30 with an NCAA provisional mark of 15.08m, a Holy Family school record. The mark currently leads the ECC, ranks second in the NCAA East Region, and sits third across NCAA Division II. 

Desi Stroud, Holy Family
Sophomore | Jumps | Mays Landing, NJ

Stroud won the long jump at the season-opening Fastrack Season Opener at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, NY on Friday, topping the field of 41 with a mark of 7.10m that currently ranks second in the ECC and ninth in the NCAA East Region. 

Women's
Danalee Brock, Holy Family University
Senior | Middle Distance | St. Elizabeth, Jamaica

Brock ran the fastest 500m in the ECC (1:19.86) to place fourth out of 21 at the season-opening Fastrack Season Opener at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, NY on Friday. Her time was the fastest Division II time of the event as the Holy Family senior finished behind a trio of Division I runners from Wagner and George Washington. 

Jenna Capolupo, D’Youville
Sophomore | Wheatfield, NY

At the Houghton December Classic, Capolupo finished first out of 16 in the long jump with a score of 5.60m and came in second out of seven in the 60m with a time of 7.72, a new personal record. Both of those performances topped the ECC this weekend. 

Destiny Ellerbe, Felician
Senior | Throws | Lancaster, PA

At the FDU Knights Midweek Clash, Ellerbe recorded a distance of 12.13m in the shot put, good for third in the field of 10. At the UMass Boston Beacon Season Opener, the Felician senior won both the shot put (11.95m) and weight throw (11.91m); her shot put mark at UMass leads the ECC and ranks third in the NCAA East Region. 

Ocelia Jones, Holy Family
Sophomore | Hurdles | Saint Elizabeth, Jamaica

Jones earned silver in the 60m hurdles with the fastest time in the ECC with a 9.08 at the season-opening Fastrack Season Opener at the Ocean Breeze Athletic Complex in Staten Island, NY on Friday; that time leads the ECC and ranks second in the NCAA East Region. 

Zoe Merryman, St. Thomas Aquinas
Sophomore | Distance | Mahwah, NJ

Merryman placed third in the mile at the TCNJ Indoor Opener, clocking in with a time of 5:31.60, which ranks second in both the ECC and NCAA East Region. 

Kylee Odell, Roberts Wesleyan
Graduate Student | Middle Distance | Panama, NY 

Odell had the top performance for the Redhawks at the season-opening GVSU Holiday Open over the weekend. Odell finished 11th overall in the mile with her time of 5:04.26, which leads the NCAA East Region by more than 27 seconds.

Kristen Oliver, Daemen
Sophomore | Throws | Massena, NY

Oliver won the weight throw in a field of 33 throwers with a distance of 14.49m at the Houghton December Classic; that mark ranks second in the ECC and fourth in the NCAA East Region. She also finished fifth out of 37 in the shot put (10.40 meters) to round out her strong day in the field with two top-five finishes. 

Madelyn Rutledge, Roberts Wesleyan
Freshman | Jumps | Medina, NY

Rutledge started her college career with a pair of impressive finishes in the long jump and triple jump at the season-opening meet at Houghton University over the weekend. She won the triple jump with a final distance of 10.74m (35' 3") and was second in the long jump with a leap of 5.20 meters (17' 3/4”).

Sabrina Spezia, Molloy
Senior | Distance | Centereach, NY

In her first track race at Molloy, Spezia quickly added her name to the program's record book. The senior's time of 10:37.57 in the 3000m set a new pace for the Lions as she finished sixth in a field of 22 runners; that time leads the ECC and ranks second in the NCAA East Region. 

Chantoya Thomas, Felician
Senior | Sprinter | Spanish Town, Jamaica

At the FDU Knights Midweek Clash, Thomas dropped a 1:00.29 to win the open 400m; that time was converted to 59.50, which leads the ECC and NCAA East Region.

Adonijah Washington, Staten Island
Freshman | Bronx, NY

Washington opened her season at the Youree Spence Garcia Invitational on Saturday placing sixth in a field of twenty-one in the triple jump. Her CSI program-record distance of 11.42m tops the ECC and ranks second in the NCAA East Region.
