ECC Men's Basketball Report - Week Two

Player of the Week

Justin Hemphill, Daemen
Redshirt Senior | F | Buffalo, NY

In Daemen’s lone game of the week, Hemphill posted a double-double for the first time this season, leading all players with 17 points on 6-of-12 shooting from the field. The Daemen forward added 13 rebounds - nine defensive boards - with three assists and two blocks in the ‘Cats 70-57 win over Charleston. 


Defensive Player of the Week

Messiah Mallory, Staten Island
Senior | F | Watervliet, NY

Mallory helped lead the Dolphins to a 1-1 week behind averages of 14.5 points, 9.0 rebounds, 2.0 steals, and 1.5 blocks per game. On Wednesday at Holy Family, the CSI senior scored 14 points and grabbed seven rebounds to go with two steals. In Staten Island’s 85-81 win over Bridgeport, Mallory recorded a 15-point, 11-rebound double-double to go with two blocks and two steals. CSI's all-time leader in blocks now has 10 on the season across four games.


Rookie of the Week

Gene Anderson, District of Columbia
Freshman | C | Washington DC

Anderson grabbed a career- and game-high 12 rebounds while shooting 4-of-5 from the field for nine points in the Firebirds’ game against Virginia Union. The UDC freshman added a steal and a block in the contest. 


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Shaun Arnold, St. Thomas Aquinas
Sophomore | G/F | Indianapolis, IN

Arnold posted 17 points and seven rebounds in STAC's 88-76 victory over Post University last week. The sophomore guard/forward also recorded four assists and three steals in 27 minutes of action, while shooting 8-of-9 from the field (89 percent) and 1-of-2 from three-point range. 

Malik Brooks, Roberts Wesleyan
Graduate Student | G | Lockport, NY

Brooks led Roberts Wesleyan to a 1-1 week with 15 points against Clarion and 18 against Lock Haven. 

TJ Holloway, Mercy
Junior | G | Stratford, CT

Holloway had a game-high and career-high 23 points on 8-of-14 shooting with a team-high six rebounds, four assists, and two steals against Goldey-Beacom on Saturday. 

Rob Matos, Molloy
Sophomore | G | Fredericksburg, VA

Matos topped 20 points for the third straight contest, putting up 25 against Holy Family in Molloy's lone contest on the week. The guard shot 8-of-11 from the foul line in addition to leading the Lions with four steals and adding five rebounds and three assists against the Tigers.

Justin Moore, D’Youville
Redshirt Junior | G | Oxford, AL

Moore put together a solid week, averaging 12.0 points per game to lead the Saints’ offensive attack, shooting 50 percent (11-of-22) from the floor.

Michael Parrotta, St. Thomas Aquinas
Senior | F | Armonk, NY

Parrotta recorded eight points and 10 rebounds in STAC's 88-76 victory over Post last week. The senior forward also tallied three assists and four steals in 28 minutes on the hardwood while shooting 3-of-5 from the field (60 percent) and 2-of-2 from the stripe.
