ECC Men's Soccer Report - Week Six

Offensive Player of the Week

Tamas Nagy, Roberts Wesleyan
Fifth Year | Forward | Szár, Hungary

Nagy played a part in both goals for Roberts Wesleyan in the 2-1 come-from-behind victory over St. Thomas Aquinas on Saturday. The RWU fifth year forward handed out an assist with a perfect through pass to Sebastian Guerrero for the first goal and then finished a play with another run up the edge of the box two minutes later for the game-winning goal. He leads Roberts with 18 points on eight goals and two assists.


Defensive Player of the Week

Thanasis Shehadeh, Queens
Sophomore | Goalkeeper | Nicosia, Cyprus

In a 1-0-1 week against regionally-ranked opponents, Shehadeh made eight saves en route to two shutouts. The Queens sophomore goalkeeper began the week by recording two saves as the Knights held regionally-ranked No. 5 Jefferson to seven shots and just two shots on goal in a 2-0 win. On Saturday against regionally-ranked No. 9 Caldwell, Shehadeh recorded a career-best six saves as Queens earned a scoreless draw.


Rookie of the Week

Sebastian Guerrero, Roberts Wesleyan 
Freshman | Forward | Rochester, NY

Guerrero came on as a sub late in the second half against St. Thomas Aquinas on Saturday and within five minutes found himself on the receiving end of a pass from Tamas Nagy; he finished the play for the first RWU goal to tie the game, 1-1. The Redhawks went on to post a 2-1 come-from-behind victory over the Spartans.

Sergio Becerra, District of Columbia
Senior | Goalkeeper | Barakaldo/Vizcaya/Spain

Becerra made six crucial saves in the Firebirds’ 2-1 conference victory over Daemen on Saturday.

Harry Cooke, Queens
Junior | Forward | Market Drayton, England

In a 1-0-1 week against regionally-ranked opponents, Cooke led the way. On Wednesday, the Queens junior forward notched his fifth multi-goal game and fifth-game winning goal of the year with a brace in QC’s 2-0 victory over regionally-ranked No. 5 Jefferson; Cooke tied (33’) and then set (36’) the Knights’ new program record for single-season goals, now sitting at 14 for the year. He went on to fire off nine shots in a full-match performance in Queens’ scoreless draw with regionally-ranked No. 9 Caldwell on Saturday. 

Isaiah Daniel, District of Columbia
Sophomore | Midfielder | Kent, England

Daniel posted four points on two assists and a goal to help lead the Firebirds to a 2-0 week. In the Firebirds’ 6-2 non-conference victory over Virginia State on Wednesday, Daniel scored a goal and dished out an assist. In the Firebirds’ 2-1 conference victory over Daemen on Saturday, Daniel assisted on the game-winning goal.

Eric Jewson, Roberts Wesleyan
Junior | Goalkeeper | Binghamton, NY

Jewson surrendered just one goal and made four saves to lead Roberts Wesleyan to a comeback 2-1 win over St. Thomas Aquinas College at home on Saturday. The Spartans scored in the sixth minute, but Jewson held them scoreless the rest of the way, allowing the Redhawks to come back for the 2-1 victory.

Miguel Soto Gonzalez, Queens
Sophomore | Forward | Madrid, Spain

Soto Gonzalez assisted on both of Harry Cooke’s goals (33’, 36’) in Queens’ 2-0 victory over regionally-ranked No. 5 Jefferson on Wednesday. The Knights’ sophomore forward added 81 minutes in Queens’ scoreless draw with regionally-ranked No. 9 Caldwell on Saturday.
