ECC Men's Soccer Report - Week Eight

Offensive Player of the Week

Ethan Robinson, D’Youville
Sophomore | Forward | Toronto, Ontario

Robinson tallied two goals and two assists in a 1-0-1 week for D’Youville. The DYU sophomore scored two goals and added an assist to help lead the Saints to a 4-1 win over Roberts Wesleyan on Wednesday. This was the first multi-goal game of his career. He also recorded an assist on the Saints' lone goal in their 1-1 tie against District of Columbia on Saturday.


Defensive Player of the Week

Thanasis Shehadeh, Queens
Redshirt Freshman | Goalkeeper | Nicosia, Cyprus

In a week in which Queens clinched the ECC Regular Season Championship, Shehadeh recorded 13 saves and his fourth shutout of the year in conference play as Queens went 1-0-1 on the week. Shehadeh began the week tying a career-best six saves in a 2-2 tie against nationally-ranked No. 20 Mercy. On Sunday, he recorded a career-best seven saves and his seventh shutout of the year in the 4-0 victory over STAC as Queens clinched the program’s first-ever Regular Season Championship and the No. 1 seed to the upcoming ECC Men’s Soccer Championship. 


Rookie of the Week

Thanasis Shehadeh, Queens
Redshirt Freshman | Goalkeeper | Nicosia, Cyprus

In a week in which Queens clinched the ECC Regular Season Championship, Shehadeh recorded 13 saves and his fourth shutout of the year in conference play as Queens went 1-0-1 on the week. ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Carlos Almeida, Queens
Graduate Student | Forward | São Paulo, Brazil

In a week in which Queens clinched the ECC Regular Season Championship, Almeida recorded a three-point week with a goal and an assist as Queens went 1-0-1 on the week. On Wednesday afternoon against nationally-ranked No. 20 Mercy, Almeida recorded his second goal of the year before the Knights earned a 2-2 ECC tie. On Sunday, Almeida recorded his team-leading seventh assist of the year on junior Harry’s Cooke’s sixth game-winning goal to extend his points tally to 11 as the Knights defeated STAC to the final score of 4-0; that victory clinched the program’s first-ever Regular Season Championship and the No. 1 seed to the upcoming ECC Men’s Soccer Championship. 

Herman Borke, Mercy
Freshman | Midfielder | Nesoeya, Norway

Borke had a team-high-tying five points on the week on two goals and one assist as Mercy went 1-0-1 on the week. The freshman opened the week by scoring the game-tying goal in the 78th minute of Mercy's 2-2 tie against Queens on Wednesday. Borke ended the week with a goal and an assist in Mercy's 4-0 win at Daemen on Saturday. 

Harry Cooke, Queens
Junior | Forward | Market Drayton, England

In a week in which Queens clinched the ECC Regular Season Championship, Cooke led the way recording five points with two goals, one assist, and a game-winning goal. On Wednesday afternoon, the junior recorded his sixth assist of the year on senior defender Joaquim Johnson's game-tying goal just before halftime against nationally-ranked No. 20 Mercy. On Sunday, Cooke recorded his fourth brace of the year and team-leading 16th and 17th goals of the year for a team-high 40 points in the first half to go with his sixth game-winning goal as Queens went on to earn a 4-0 victory over STAC; that victory clinched the program’s first-ever Regular Season Championship and the No. 1 seed to the upcoming ECC Men’s Soccer Championship. 

Johannes Hanken Tjostheim, Mercy
Junior | Forward | Aalesund, Norway

Hanken Tjostheim had a team-high-tying five points on two goals and one assist as Mercy went 1-0-1 on the week. The junior opened the week with a goal in Mercy's 2-2 draw against Queens on Wednesday. The forward ended the week with a goal and an assist in the Mavericks' 4-0 win at Daemen on Saturday. 

Julian Holland, Mercy
Senior | Defender | Tokyo, Japan

Holland had two assists on the week while playing 174 minutes on defense, helping lead the Mavericks to a 1-0-1 record and one shutout on the week. The senior opened the week with an assist on the game-tying goal in the 78th minute of Mercy's 2-2 tie against Queens on Wednesday. Holland also added an assist in Mercy's 4-0 win at Daemen on Saturday, helping lead a Mavericks backline that allowed just two shots on goal. 

Giovanni Llamas, District of Columbia
Freshman | Goalkeeper | Bladensburg, MD

Llamas went 1-0-1 in goal on the week, allowing just two goals and making 16 saves. In the Firebirds’ 2-1 victory over St Thomas Aquinas, Llamas made a game-high 10 saves while allowing only one goal. In the 1-1 draw against D'Youville, the UDC freshman made a game-high six saves.

Ignacio Lopez, District of Columbia
Sophomore | Midfielder | Madrid, Spain

Lopez scored both goals in the Firebirds’ 2-1 win over St Thomas Aquinas.

Matthew Solorio, D’Youville
Freshman | Goalkeeper | Kansas City, MO

Solorio allowed just two goals in two games this week for D'Youville. In the Saints' 4-1 win over Roberts Wesleyan on Wednesday, Solorio recorded two saves on three shots faced. In Saturday's 1-1 draw against District of Columbia, he recorded three saves on four shots faced.
