ECC Indoor Track and Field Report - Week Six

Men's Track Athlete of the Week

John Jaworski, Daemen
Graduate Student | Sprints/Jumps | Naperville, Ill.

Jaworski won the 60m and placed second in the 200m at the RIT January Friday Meet. The Daemen graduate student opened the night by running the fastest time in the 60m preliminaries field of 22 (7.20) and went on to place first in the finals and establish another personal best time of 7.11 seconds, which ranks eighth in the ECC this season. Jaworski also placed second out of 29 sprinters in the 200m with a personal-best time of 23.18 seconds, which ranks as the eighth best time in program history. Converted to a 22.78, that time also ties for sixth in the ECC this season. Additionally, his 60m time ties for 16th in the NCAA East Region. 


Men's Field Co-Athlete of the Week

Robbie Babson, Georgian Court
Junior | Throws | Toms River, N.J.

Babson competed twice this weekend in the shot put and had top-five finishes in both meets. First, the Georgian Court junior placed fifth in a field of 26 at the Boston University John Thomas Terrier Classic with a mark of 15.53m (50’ 11 1/2”). Babson then won the shot put in a field of 50 at the Mini-Dip Invite at Franklin and Marshall, throwing a season-best and ECC leading 16.42m (53’ 10 1/2”); that mark also ranks second in the NCAA East Region and missed the NCAA provisional mark by .01 meters. 


Men's Field Co-Athlete of the Week

Emmanuel Mena Jimenez, St. Thomas Aquinas
Senior | Throws | West Haverstraw, N.Y.
Jimenez took fourth place in a weight throw field of 15 with a toss of 19.07m (62' 6 3/4”) at the Riverhawk Invitational. The St. Thomas Aquinas senior once again hit the NCAA Division II provisional mark for the event (18.09m) and now owns the six best marks in the event across the ECC this season. Mena Jimenez also finished tenth in the shot put field of 43 with a throw of 14.09m (46' 2 3/4”).


Women's Track Athlete of the Week

Imani Fitzpatrick, Felician
Sophomore | Sprints | Neptune, N.J.

At the 25th Annual Bison Open and Multi, Fitzpatrick set the fastest times in the ECC this season in two events. The Felician sophomore won the 500m in a field of 17 in a Felician-record time of 1:18.90, converted to an ECC-leading 1:17.91. Fitzpatrick also placed fourth in a 200m field of 56 in 25.75, converted to an ECC-leading 25.36.


Women's Field Co-Athlete of the Week

Talia Ferguson, Felician
Senior | Multi-Events | Hasbrouck Heights, N.J.

Ferguson set her second national qualifier in the triple jump at the 25th Annual Bison Open and Multi with a mark of 11.77m (38' 7 1/2”), which stands as a new Felician record and tops both the ECC and NCAA East Region this season. The Felician senior placed third in a field of 14 in the triple jump, fourth in a field of 25 in the long jump (5.39m/17’ 8 1/4”), and fifth in a field of 23 in the high jump (1.60m/5’ 3”). 


Women's Field Co-Athlete of the Week

Hailee Lowe, Roberts Wesleyan
Senior | Multi-Events | Alexander, N.Y.

Lowe won the pentathlon over 14 other competitors at the Utica Blue & Orange Invite and Multi with 3,089 points, which included event wins in the 60m hurdles (9.14), long jump (5.18m/17’ 0”), and 800m (2:37), a tie for second in the high jump (1.49m/4’ 10 1/2”), and an eighth-place finish in the shot put (7.71m/25’ 3 1/2”). Converted to 3,110 points, that performance tops both the ECC and NCAA East Region. 


ECC Weekly Honor Roll

Men's
Orion Dowdall, Roberts Wesleyan
Junior | Pole Vault | Santa Rosa, Calif. 

Dowdall won the pole vault in a field of four at the Utica Blue & Orange Invite and Multi with a clearance of 4.45m (14’ 7 1/4”). 

Ben Nelken, Felician
Freshman | Sprints | Clifton, N.J.

On the first day of the 25th Annual Bison Open and Multi, Nelken recorded the Felician record in the 200m with a time of 22.61 to place fifth out of 65 competitors as Felician’s top finisher in the event. Converted to a time of 22.22, that performance leads the ECC this season and ranks sixth in the NCAA East Region. 

Corden Zimmerman, Roberts Wesleyan
Sophomore | Multi-Events | Byron Bergen

Zimmerman won the heptathlon at the Utica Blue & Orange Invite and Multi. The Roberts Wesleyan sophomore scored 4,411 points, getting a win in the pole vault (4.35m) and taking second in three other events. That converted mark of 4,435 ranks first in the ECC and fourth in the NCAA East Region.

Brynn King, Roberts Wesleyan
Graduate Student | Pole Vault | The Woodlands, Texas

King won the pole vault in a field of 12 at the Utica Blue & Orange Invite and Multi, posting a mark of 4.35m (14’ 3 1/4”). King has competed in the pole vault six times this season and has won all six events to own the six best times across all of NCAA Division II this season, all NCAA provisional marks. 

Becca Schultz, Daemen
Sophomore | Sprints/Jumps/Hurdles | Grand Island, N.Y.

Schultz won both the 60m (8.32) and 60m hurdles (Daemen record 9.41) at the RIT January Friday Meet. The Daemen sophomore also placed third in the triple jump (10.13m).

Rain Sheppard, District of Columbia
Freshman | Distance | Brooklyn, N.Y.

Sheppard ran a season-best and collegiate-best time of 2:20.53 in the 800m at the VMI Invitational, which tops the ECC this season.
