Central Islip, N.Y. - C.W. Post's Greg Cerar and Dowling's Gabriel Duran have been selected to appear in Sports Illustrated's "Faces In The Crowd" section.
A four-goal performance against LeMoyne College for the NCAA Division II men's lacrosse national championship following an astonishing season has earned C.W. Post senior attacker Greg Cerar (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) a spot in the June 22 issue.
Cerar, who led the Pioneers with 48 goals and 38 assists this season, received the Lt. Raymond J. Enners Award as the top player in NCAA Division II. He was also voted the East Coast Conference Player of the Year by the league's head coaches. Following the Pioneers' championship win, Cerar was named the game's most outstanding player.
C.W. Post (15-1, 6-0 ECC) captured its second national title in program history by defeating LeMoyne, 8-7, on May 24 at Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Mass.
Duran earned recognition in Sports Illustrated after putting
together arguably the best season by a pitcher in Dowling College
history. He was named the 2009 Daktronics and National Collegiate
Baseball Writers Association National Pitcher of the Year, while
also earning First Team All-American honors from Daktronics,
Rawlings/ABCA, and the NCBWA. Duran set a program record with 10
wins and was also third in the nation in ERA at 1.30.
Duran becomes the fourth Golden Lion to be featured in "Faces in the Crowd", joining Marta Slodnik (Volleyball, 2003), Morten Jensen (Men's Soccer, 2004), and Marcus Come (Men's Soccer, 2007).
